Chance Hymas + 2021: Vurb Red Program by Garrett Poll

While it may not seem like it, the vurbmoto Red Program has been hard at work… but mostly behind the scenes. We had an overwhelming amount of submissions throughout the last nine months from like-minded creators all over the world, and, to be honest, it would’ve been a full-time job in itself to try to sort, reply, and attain the goals of the program… so I decided to shift the criteria of how to sift through all the applicants. It ultimately came down to persistence, and most of all the people I’ve chosen to work with drove 8 hours to hunt me down at a race. But I need to get into all that at another time, this is about a very talented fellow I met in Salt Lake City during supercross last summer.

Right after the launch of vurbmoto, Broke Amateur Racing’s Garrett Poll tracked down Kyle Cowling and me at the Tooele SX Track while we were shooting Moto Spy. In a very courageous moment, Garrett busted out his phone and decided to let us watch some of his most recent work. Not that I want to encourage this practice, but it took balls… AND his talents were obvious. Later that month, I’d aligned with Garrett to join him on a shoot at 80 acres with Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Chance Hymas, a relatively low-key amateur kid that I knew was ready to be putting himself on the map. Due to debilitating sciatica at the time, I had bail on Garrett and instead gave him a 2-page list of notes and constructive criticism from some of his previous work and gave him the ole virtual pat on the back and said good luck.

My goal for him was to make an old school vibe segment (with Mini Warriors and The Beginning as a bit of reference) and show off Chance’s talents and personality with a song that was reminiscent of the early 2000s. We then decided to shelf it for months on end and save it for some Spring National hype. Why? Because I’m calling it now: Chance Hymas is going to be a kid that you’re going to watching all year, so might as well start now. With a career that’s littered with Loretta Lynn’s top 5s and now a Schoolboy 2 Championship, Chance is about to show the world he’s got the speed to light the world on fire.

More to come on Garrett and his entry into the Red Program, but for now kick back with a cup of coffee and watch some epic dirtbike riding.

Been 'round these parts making dirtbike movies since '02; a weathered veteran with moto and camera related back issues, the hearing equivalent to my great-great grandfather's, and a dirt tan that will literally never come off. But I'm still in way better shape than every other dog in this joint, but that's because I use Chili and no slaw.
