Quad Lock Honda’s Dean Wilson announced on Instagram Wednesday that he sustained a broken shoulder in a practice crash earlier this week ahead of round 2 of the SMX World Championship Playoffs at Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles, CA.
Per his social media, Wilson said he was training this week when his chain derailed after he tripled onto a tabletop and it sent him over the bars “violently.”
“Scary day yesterday,” he wrote. “Everything was going great at the track as I had a lap and a half left and I was done. Unfortunately my chain derailed after I tripled on a table top and sent over the bars violently. Broken shoulder & I have to say I’m lucky that’s all I did. Big shout to my boy @derekdrake__ for driving me to hospital.”
While Wilson no longer competes full-time in the SMX World Championship, he raced five rounds of Monster Energy AMA Supercross in 2026 and earned a wild card berth. He did not make the main at the opener in Columbus last weekend after finishing 11th in the Wild Card race.
Wilson is currently second in the FIM World Supercross Championship after one round but said he is still unsure if he will be able to compete at his home GP in Birmingham, UK, on October 10. The defending 450 Champion in the Australian Supercross Championship, Wilson was also expected to return when the series kicks off October 31.
“I see a specialist Friday for a time frame,” he wrote. “Gutted as I felt like I was in a good spot & sitting 2nd in @fimwsx & was looking forward to @ausxsupercross . But we will see how it goes. Just wanna thank everyone for checking in on me. You’re all absolute legends. Sorry for the sh!t news but sometimes shit happens when you don’t expect it.”
