T-Dog’s Takes: Hawaii’s Own Grant Harlan on What He Does On the Road

Notice that this column now has a sponsor? That’s right! Troy Dog joined the Blu Cru and you should too! I have one in my garage right now and I can’t wait to go shred it this summer! Thank you to Yamaha for believing in my ELITE columns on this dirtbike website enough to sponsor me. What a dream come true!

We’re halfway through the 2022 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship and the Troy Dog Squad’s own Grant Harlan has been putting in the miles on the road. The goal this summer was to put a program together that was back to the grassroots. The Har Dog Days of Summer of Fun Tour is what I like to call it. WE almost pulled the holeshot at RedBud on a stock motor! Har Dog is having an absolute blast!

This week I picked his interesting brain to find out what it’s like on a long road trip with him. Here’s what to expect when going on a roadtrip with Hawaii’s own.

Music/Entertainment

Har Dog starts his trips with a nice blend of music to get the vibe right. Once he’s on a long stretch of highway he listens to YouTube videos. He probably catches up on T-Dog’s content too because like Wes Kain, “I got stuff popping off everywhere, alriiiiiight.”

What’s for Lunch?

“Potle for lunch, always,” says Har Dog. One thing is for sure, he’s not going to Qdoba for lunch. Harlan has an ongoing feud with Qdoba enough to where he said that even if Chipotle gave him food poisoning every time he ate there that he would still choose it over Qdoba. Also, if you forget the black fork for the Chipotle then you might as well forget the food too. According to Harlan, the food tastes better with the plastic fork.

Favorite State?

Of course, Har Dog never admits to having a favorite anything (besides lunch of course). He said that he’s not sure what his favorite state is, but he doesn’t like driving through the states he’s driven through a lot. He’s looking forward to his drive from Millville to Washougal because it’ll be new to him.

Worst Part of Traveling? Best Part?

After my drives to Florida, Illinois, and Michigan the past two months I totally understand why Har Dog said that gas prices are the worst part about traveling. It’s not exactly the best year to drive to all of the races, but hey WE are grinding. As for the best part about traveling, Har Dog likes to travel alone and he appreciates all the “me time” he gets.

Who is the one person you choose to bring on a trip?

I set up Harlan to really answer this question the way I wanted him to. I figured he would choose me to accompany him on a long drive. I mean, after all I’m his team manager, bff, mental coach, and everything else. It’s an easy answer, for real. Then the kid chooses some college gymnast/ Instagram model named Livvy Dunne to be the one person he wants to travel with. He’s never even met her and she doesn’t know he exists, yet. It’s a weird flex, but shoot your shot kid. Also, hey Livvy, if you’re reading this, Har Dog is an ELITE athlete and he wants to take you on an awesome date. Please give him a chance. He once let me borrow his Lambo and then he watched my kids so that my wife and I could go on a date for the first time in two years. My kids still ask when he will come back to hang out. Thanks in advance.

Why Do WE do what we do?

We’re driving to races this summer because it’s what we do. Racing is all we’ve ever even known and WE are going to give it the best we can until WE can’t. WE will see you at Millville!
