The Muc-Off/FXR/ClubMX team had an impressive showing in the second Motos at High Point. All three 250MX riders started up front with Coty Schock, Mark Fineis, and Jett Reynolds. Then Phil Nicoletti’s knee came back from the dead to help him holeshot 450MX Moto 2.
The most impressive bit with these starts is the dynamic of the High Point first turn. If you’ve never been there in person, TV does not do it justice. It’s a legit incline and the fact that a non-factory team was able to pull the factory bikes on this setup says something about the ClubMX program.
ClubMX’s Team Manager Mike Bonacci had some comments on the matter.
“We have worked hard on the bike – and it shows,” Bonacci said. “The riders are making steps to get comfortable running up front and better results are coming. Phil and Mark leading laps is something we should start getting used to.”
High Point was another step in the right direction for ClubMX’s rookie Mark Fineis as he had the chance to lead for the first time in his young professional career.
“Lap one I came around in the lead with Vialle in pursuit,” Fineis said in his Instagram race report. “He got around me but, not without a fight. I stayed close. Later in the lap he fell. I moved back into the lead. Next, Masterpool was behind me and was able to make the pass. I stayed within a few seconds, then he went down. I was once again back in the lead. Several corners later I hit a slick spot in the track and fell. Unfortunately, it damaged my radiator and my motor overheated with 17 min to go. I had to pull off. I’m really bummed I couldn’t finish. I had a real good chance for a podium.”
It’s been a while since we’ve seen three riders from the same team run in the top three for a little while. Something tells me this won’t be the last time that this happens this year, especially with the ClubMX team trending upward.
