Motos to Be Shortened at Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Season Finale Due to Heat

The final round of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross this weekend at Fox Raceway in Pala, CA, is going to be HOT. The forecast is currently calling for temperatures to reach 105 degrees and an excessive heat warning is in effect this weekend.

Due to the heat, MX Sports Pro Racing has announced the race day schedule will be adjusted. Instead of the typical 30 minutes plus 2 laps motos, the motos have been shortened to 25 minutes plus 2 laps.

In addition, there will be a longer break in between the first and second motos. An extra 30 minutes will be provided between the first and second motos of the day.

Below is the full schedule for this weekend’s finale:

  1. So? Why have a race in a place KNOWN for consistently hot weather? How about do qualifiers on Friday, have a warm up session Saturday morning at 7:00am and start racing at 10:00? get the full set of races in before (at least partially) it gets too hot. Peak afternoon temperatures are around 4:00pm.

  2. Seems like it favors the guys who aren’t in shape.. and puts guys like Tomac, who turn it up for the final 10 min, in a deficit. What a terrible idea for the final round when it comes down to 1 point. Big time L for top racers and all fans.

  3. Or just have motocross in the fall to avoid temperatures like this and Supercross in the begging of the year so they have a summer break

  4. Great decision. Red Bud claimed Josh Lichtle due to extreme heat. Not forgotten are the days where riders would slam IVs in between motos. Wholly support shortening the motos.

  5. Keep the moto times as the are but just spread the time between Motos out. More recovery time. Biggest race of the year, don’t screw it up!!!!!!!
