Vintage Vibes: Good Times and Dirtbikes Tour Leg 2 | Muddy Creek and Daniel Boone

Long before I was Troy Dog I was grinding day in and day out in this sport. I’m pretty sure, besides Coney Island Dog, that I was the longest running contributor in the history of this dirtbike website. Of course that was long before I took over and became CEO, but that’s a story for a different day.

This week’s Vintage Vibes is a video that means a lot to me. This video captures the 2014 Good Times and Dirtbikes Tour, or GTDT for those who remember. This was really the first phase of what we now call the vurbmoto Dirtbikes are Dope Shred Tour, which is NOT a race. The GTDT was a tour to local tracks (which is what we do now) and it was one day of practice. We took photos and videos to make y’all famous, sold merch, and had a great time.

On this leg of the tour I drove my 2007 Ford Focus with worn out engine mounts (this was before I made it big) to cover the loaded Muddy Creek Regional. The Pro classes were stacked that weekend with Aaron Plessinger, RJ Hampshire, Jordon Smith, Cameron McAdoo, Luke Renzland,  Darian Sanayei, Nick Gaines, and a slew of so many other fast dudes. It was difficult covering the event because it was hard to keep track of all the great racing! I figured since RJ and Plessinger did so great at RedBud that we should go back in time and visit their last year as amateurs, right?

This was an amazing Regional to be at.

The next weekend I drove to Daniel Boone MX in Kentucky to pay respects to Austin Mincey. Mincey had tragically passed away while racing at Ironman MX and the motocross community came together to have a ride day for him. It was a day of celebration for Mincey, but as you can imagine it was very somber as all of his family and friends gathered to tell stories and remember the good times. I did not get a chance to meet Austin, but it seems like he touched a lot of people’s lives. RIP.

At the end of the day the event held a memorial lap for Austin and one of the craziest storms ever came through. I remember Austin’s dad telling everyone something along the lines of how Austin had always loved a good mud race. It was a fitting end to the day.

Enjoy this throwback and the few shots of T-Dog that made it in. Our own Boogie Dog shot and edited this one. This was a crazy summer for me. I was driving back and forth to this tour for months and in between having a bachelor party and getting married. It was a great time and I’ll never forget it.
