It has been a tough few months for Monster Energy/Yamaha Star Racing’s rising prospect Cole Davies and following the final round of the SuperMotocross Playoffs on Saturday, the team announced on Monday that the New Zealander underwent successful UCL surgery to repair a tear.
“I’ve been dealing with a torn UCL ligament in my thumb since Charlotte, and it’s definitely made riding tough these past few weeks,” said Davies. “We tried to push through, but ultimately surgery had to be done. The procedure went really well and recovery is now on track. It’s been a bit of tough luck lately, but I won’t stop fighting. My eyes are already on Melbourne for AUSX and the 2026 season.”
While 2025 was a success for the rookie in Monster Energy AMA Supercross, as he earned Rookie of the Year honors, his last few months have also been plagued by injuries.
If you recall, Davies was involved in a frightening crash in qualifying at Salt Lake City with Jordon Smith when Davies, who was leading the qualifying session, made a mistake in a rhythm section and was rolling the track, and Smith, who was on a fast lap, landed on him.
Initially, the crash looked like it might sideline Davies for the rest of 2025, but it was later determined at the hospital that he sustained a broken arm and nose in the accident.
Davies was able to return for the final two rounds of Pro Motocross and the SMX Playoffs, but couldn’t find the same form he displayed in SX. At the final round in Vegas, Davies had a big crash in qualifying and a crash in the first race. He did not line up for the second race.
Davies is still expected to join the Lawrence brothers and more later this year for the AUSX Open on Nov 22 at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.
