Title Time Approaches at Freestone

It’s title day, err afternoon, here at the 11th Annual JS7 Spring Championship at Freestone. Thus far we have seen the usual names at the front while some other hitters were laying on the ground early dashing their title hopes. Let’s dig into the racing that was tastier than a plate of Texas BBQ with a side of slaw.

Levi is the Chef in this Kitchen.
Round two of the days’ worth of A Class racing did not disappoint, well for some it did. Levi Kitchen, Jack Chambers, Cullin Park and Josh Varize all grabbed great starts to put themselves up front early on while the contenders Jett Reynolds, Chance Hymas and Austin Black found themselves buried in the pack with work to do. While Kitchen was on his own planet out front just clicking off laps while the war behind him raged on. Josh Varize held down 2nd for most of the race until the freight train that was Chance Hymas came rolling through to take charge of the #2 spot. Austin Black put in the ride of the weekend coming through the pack to take 3rd while Josh Varize and Cullin Park wrapped up the top 5. Jett Reynolds would ultimately DNF the moto due to a crash early on.

Gingers Reign Supreme Once Again.
Since Ryan Villopoto and Trey Canard stepped away, the sport has been lacking that ginger power we have come to expect. Insert Drew Adams as he has been crushing it all week here in Texas and ran away with the 85 9-12 class among others. Landon Gibson’s ride should not go unnoticed though as he kept Adams honest the entire race while Caden Dudney clicked off solid laps to secure 3rd place.

125 All Stars.
Need I say anymore? Didn’t think so. That sweet sweet sound of 125cc absolutely pinned is what makes this race what it is, tack on some deep up and coming talent what is not to love?! Mark Fineis has dominated everything he has entered on a 125 from the Loretta Lynns Area Qualifier to this very race here and doesn’t look like he is slowing down any time soon. Fineis would grab the moto win and the overall with 1-1 scores. Noah Smerdon and Bryce Shelly went back and forth for the 2nd and 3rd spots until Shelly snuck away about 1/2 way through to take 2nd. Smerdon would settle for the 3 spot. We get to see these kids do it all again tomorrow (or Saturday) in Schoolboy 1.

Wey Gone.
65 7-11 is quickly becoming one of my favorite classes to cover. You have kids who are transitioning into their 85 career but not quite ready for the full time leap and some young guns just starting to make their mark on the class. Reis Seeba grabbed the early lead but it wouldn’t last but half a lap when Vincent Wey made his move to the front and never looked back. Seeba would settle into second while Carson Wood cruised his way into 3rd.

Deegan vs. Cochran v3
Supermini 2 was a sight to behold. The fences were lined as if it were an A Class moto to watch the potential of a Casey Cochran and Haiden Deegan battle and we got just that, but it didn’t start that way. Haiden Deegan didn’t get the start he had hoped while Casey Cochran and Jude Smerlick charged to the front, leaving Enzo Temmerman, Reven Gordon, and Dilon Blecha to sort out the rest. Deegan then seemed to hit warp speed and absolutely ripped through the pack but couldn’t quite get to Cochran until the very last lap. That is right, we finally got our last lap battle. When they reappeared from the back section up over Cemetery Hill it was Deegan with the lead and would take the win. Cochran would finish second while Smerlick held on for 3rd. These two aren’t done yet as they will battle in Supermini 1 on Friday.

Written by Jeff Simpson

We met Jeff sleeping in a tent down the street from Loretta Lynn's... with his computer. At that point, we knew he would fit in with us. Then, he then drank all the white claw flavors none of us liked, and that's when we knew it was meant to be. Jeff officially became part of the crew.
We're terrible at asking questions, so we're not exactly sure what Jeff does for a living, but he loves petting his cats and dog, growing his beard, and living in a cornfield in Michigan. Jeff also likes to wear cycling glasses while driving his car and using his cameras. We like Jeff.
