I have hope. Not much hope, but it’s some hope. Jett Lawrence will not be going undefeated for the 2024 Pro Motocross Championship.
Fox Raceway opened my eyes to a lot of things. One thing that I did, that I’ll never do again, is underestimate Chase Sexton. I’m a man and can admit that I did this. I’m sorry Chase, but maybe we can go to a Taylor Swift concert to get over this. I assumed that with the first round of the championship that Sexton wouldn’t be as comfortable on the bike as he should be. I assumed that since he’s never raced the KTM outdoors that he would be a little off. Sometimes these riders enter the first round of a new series not completely dialed on bike setup and it shows in their riding. I assumed that this is where Sexton would be. But, I was wr…wr…wrong. I mean hey, this guy went tooth and nail against Eli Tomac for an outdoor championship. I should have known better.
Sexton showed up and despite his first moto troubles, he gave Jett a run in the second moto. No, he never made a pass, but he was close. The only thing that bothers me about my take this week is what Jettson did during that pressure from Sexton.
When Sexton got close, did anybody else notice Jett take a glance behind him over the table before the sharp right hander in the back where Jo Shimoda fell? Jett did it so smoothly and never let Sexton get by. In fact, when Sexton went off the track that was all she wrote, but can we acknowledge that maybe Jett did what he had to do to win the moto and get the job finished? That’s my only worry. As Jett stated on the podium and in the press conference, he wasn’t exactly comfortable on his bike setup and couldn’t go as fast as he wanted to. That’s a worry for me…
BUT, this is my takes column and I feel very strongly about what I saw out of Hunter Lawrence and Chase Sexton. Although they never made any passes on Jett, they were still close and making life hard on the defending champion. I say that Sexton and H. Lawrence will only get better as we go and by RedBud I can see them stopping the streak.
Also, can we talk about how great Hunter was and how I was right about him all along?
This was round one and to have Hunter be that strong right away was pretty awesome to see. It showed that he has so much left to give. To be on Jett’s rear wheel already was great news for racing in general. I’ve said it before, if it isn’t Chase, then it’s going to be Hunter to stop the streak. He’s the man for the job because he knows his brother and how he rides better than anyone else. After all he practices with him daily and has for his entire life. Hunter knows what he needs to do to beat him…AND he owes him one after Jett called him Ronald McDonald.
I’M SO READY FOR HANGTOWN!

Hunter won’t beat him until r8ckys record of straight wins is broken. But after that it is game on. Hunter knows the dollar value to HRC AND TEAM LAWRENCE. They will have internal deals to get the best for the family as a whole. They are Australian after all. That’s how we roll.
