T-Dog’s Takes: Is Dylan Walsh The Most Underrated 250 Rider Entering 2024?

Notice that this column now has a sponsor? That’s right! Troy Dog joined the Blu Cru and you should too! Have you seen the new 2024 models with the special livery? Go look right now! It’s amazing.

One of the most underrated riders heading into the 2024 Monster Energy Supercross Championship is Host Grindstone Kawasaki rider Dylan Walsh. The British rider has been racing the 250SX West Region the past two seasons, however he could only do an abbreviated schedule in 2022, and sat out the last half of the 2023 rounds due to injury. In all he’s only been able to complete eight rounds the past two seasons with a couple rounds of outdoors in ‘22.

The upside is that in those eight rounds he’s finished 11th in six of those and 12th and 10th in the other two. Walsh has found great consistency on privateer bikes and this year he’s teamed up with the Host Grindstone Kawasaki team to hopefully have the best season of his young career.

The team is run by Cari Schehr, who also runs the Grindstone Compound, which is a training facility in Murrieta, CA. It’s a newer, small team, but they’re putting all of their focus in on Walsh and building their program organically. The team has Twisted Development doing the engines and Walsh said that he’s hooked up with A-kit KYB suspension, which has made a big difference for him this offseason.

“I was on my fifth round of 2023 when I got hurt in Seattle, but I was tenth in points, so I was stoked on that,” Walsh said. “I would like to start the new season there again, but definitely expect more from myself this year. I didn’t really have any expectations, it was just a dream of mine to race AMA SX. It was just a tick off of the bucket list!”

Walsh will return home to race the British Motocross Championship, but will show up to race some rounds of the Pro Motocross Championship as needed to qualify for the SuperMotocross Playoffs.

While you’re watching the opening round of Monster Energy Supercross in Anaheim this weekend don’t be surprised when you see Walsh’s name up in the results. He’s got a really solid team effort behind him and he’s got the consistency in his results to truly make a name for himself here in America.

“Cari has a great program and a great setup, so I can’t complain,” he said. “I’ve been lucky enough to build very good relationships over the years with Bell and Monster. It’s good to know people actually have your back. It’s been good so far, Cari has me dialed in heading into the first race!”
