Jett Lawrence races at Round 2 of the AMA Motocross Series at Thunder Valley Raceway in Lakewood, Colorado, USA on 05 June, 2021.

Slawdictions for High Point: The Lawrence Bros Do It Again

After a week off, Slaw Nation and the best moto column on the entire planet is back! That’s right, Slaw is here to fire off some bold predictions for the third round of the championship at High Point.

NONE of this would be possible without the folks at FLY Racing, who have stepped in to support Slaw and #slawnation couldn’t be happier. Visit www.flyracing.com and support those who support Slaw.

Prediction

According to our poll earlier this week, which was voted on by the millions of loyal Vurb readers, Eli Tomac’s ninth overall finish at Fox Raceway 1 was the biggest surprise to come from the opener. Slaw may or may not have voted for that. NO rules against me voting! Yes, it’s only round 2, but this weekend is massive for Tomac. He needs to right this ship. And what a better place than at his “home track”. Okay, it’s not really his home track, but you get the point. Dude has trained in Colorado for his entire career (I think) so this is his home track. That’s a long way of saying Tomac podiums this weekend. Extra Slaw for the overall!

Umm, so, yeah…. about that.

Slawdiction: 0 out of 10.

Prediction

These dudes were on FIRE last week. This is in no way disrespecting that. BUT, I don’t think either follow it up with another win this weekend. In the 250 Class, I think the Star bikes at altitude will be too strong and Jeremy Martin or Justin Cooper takes the overall. (Slaw Nation is waiting on the Slaw Dog on the podium, Justin). The 450 Class is SOOOO deep, even though we lost Jason Anderson to injury. Both riders will be good this weekend, they just won’t repeat.

Oh, doggie, I got by the skin of my Slaw on this one. Jett Lawrence won the second moto, but finished second overall behind Justin Cooper’s 2-2. Dylan Ferrandis was on fire, but also finished second overall behind Ken Roczen. So, yeah, I was right… but barley.

Slawdiction: 11 out of 10.

Prediction

LEAD SLAW LOCK OF THE WEEK ALERT! Watching Bam Bam outdoors might just be my favorite part of every race. Dude is just NFG (we still saying that?), wide open, blowing out berms, you name it. I loved him on his debut with GasGas outdoors. I think it continues this weekend with a podium.

Barcia missed out on the overall podium BY ONE POINT! C’MON. He did get a moto podium, so I’ll take some credit.

Slawdiction: 6 out of 10.

Prediction

After dang near winning the first moto, Sexton went through the field in the second moto like a damn honey badger, going from worse than dead last (yes, it’s a thing) to 10th. I think this kids future is so bright, and I like him to capture a moto win this Saturday. Heard it here first.

Umm, so, yeah…. about that.

Slawdiction: 0 out of 10.

Prediction

Steve Matthes is Drug Through the Pits For This Take. I love Steve, but this is the worst take of all-time.

We at Vurb have captured exclusive video of Steve walking through the pits after this take…

Slawdiction: 18 out of 10.

Let’s move on to High Point, shall we….

The Lawrence Bros Do It Again

At Thunder Vally, Jett Lawrence, and as the great Ralph Sheheen would say, Jett Lawrence’s brother Hunter, became just the third set of brothers to land on the same overall podium in Pro Motocross, joining the Martin brothers (Alex and Jeremy), who did so in both 2016 and 2017, and the Jones brothers (Gary and Dewayne) who did so in 1973 at the Lake Whitney 250 National in Texas. Well, I like the bros to do it again. I ain’t predicting finishing order over here, but they both will be on the overall podium.

AC Gets the Overall

Can he finally do away with the mistakes? Yes, yes he can. AC has been riding great and I think the week off will only help. He takes the 450 overall at High Point.

Mosiman Gets a Moto Podium

LEAD SLAW LOCK OF THE WEEK ALERT. Throw out his Thunder Valley results, as Michael Mosiman had a problem with gas in his GasGas in the first moto and I think crashed in the second. I’m not even going to post his moto scores, because they don’t matter. You know what does? His 4-4 for fourth overall at Fox Raceway. Look for a moto podium from him this weekend.

Ferrandis Off the Podium

This is a stretch, but I think Ferrandis lands just off the podium this weekend. Look, he’s been amazing through two rounds, but he’s still a rookie. I think he still gets a top five overall, just not a podium.

Jason Thomas Returns to Get Start Record, But…

Former pro, and current FLY Racing badass and Racer X contributor, Jason Thomas is currently fourth on the all-time 250/450 moto start list with 253 career moto starts. Well, JT has been preparing for a comeback and is going to High Point to track down the great John Dowd for the record. The only problem? He doesn’t have a gas tank, so he can’t race. Shame.
