I understand I’m yelling into the abyss, but I don’t want to hear ANY Team USA slander. RJ Hampshire rode through injury. Justin Cooper dropped down to a 250. Eli Tomac stepped up AGAIN. The boys gave it their all but ran into the buzz saw that is Team Australia.
For this weeks GUTS Power Rankings, we (I) will drop my post Motocross of Nations ranks. These are the best Power Rankings around, so thanks for continuing to read.
1: Team Australia
As I wrote prior to the Motocross of Nations, all I felt Australia needed to win back-to-back titles was ONE solid moto from Kyle Webster. Well, they got two, as he went 13-15 on a 250 and Jett and Hunter did the rest.
2: Hunter Lawrence
Yeah, he’s fallen short of 450 championships in the US thus far in his short career, but bringing home back-to-back titles for the home country (for the first time ever) has to fell amazing. Hunter rode exceptional all weekend and when it was all on the line the third and final moto, he grabbed the start and lead the entire way to bring it home for the boys.
3: Jett Lawrence
Jett was Jett. I was chatting with someone during the race and we were talking about how hard its going to be to beat Australia at this event over the next 10 or so years if the Lawrence bros stay healthy.
4: Jo Shimoda
Is Jo gonna be a big problem in the 450 Class? If we are judging by this weekend, all signs point to yes. While he’ll remain in the 250 Class in 2026, things are looking up for Jo Show.
5: Justin Cooper
Was on rails all weekend long. He had to drop down with little prep and showed up in front of the home crowd. He should be hanging his head high after this weekend.
6: Eli Tomac
Was this the last MXoN for Tomac? I hope not, because he deserves to go out a champion one more time at this event. He rides his heart out every time he’s competed and he delivered in the final race over the weekend.
7: Lucas Coenen
Hand up, I thought him moving to the MXGP class for this year was dumb. It felt like a rushed decision. Well, all he has done is almost win a world championship and rode amazing at the Motocross of Nations. With his brother and Liam Everts coming through, Belgium is going to be a problem at this event over the next decade.
8: Kay de Wolf
When Glenn Coldenhoff went down hard in qualifying, The Netherlands chances vanished. Well, de Wolf didn’t care and still out and rode with his heart and pride. He won the MX2 overall and my goodness, he is much bigger in person. He looks like a college linebacker. He is going to be a problem when he moves up to the 450.
9: Tim Gajser
In his last ride with Honda, Gajser and the boys put in their best result in history (pretty sure) with a fifth overall. What a way to end his Honda career (for now).
10: Jan Pancar
Hand up, where did this dude come from? From last year to this year, he stepped up big time. If Slovenia can find a MX2 rider, they could have a chance here and what a story that would be.
