We had to call in the big guns for this one! Who better than David Bailey to provide us a list for this edition of the GUTS Racing Power Rankings.
Over a cup of coffee this morning, Bailey ironed out his list with Kevin Kelly and it’s amazing. He wanted to give honorable mention to Damon Bradshaw, Jeremy McGrath, James Stewart, Jeff Jennings, Billy Grossi and more he could have listed. We are going to have more future star guests, so stay tuned.
1. Joel Robert: The original “cross up” was called a Joel!

2. Roger De Coster: Just because he was so cool. His trick leathers, that iconic gold-ish rich yellow simple Suzuki jersey, the 🇧🇪 flag on his helmet, his accent, his bent back style of the trickest works bikes ever made at the time (that he probably had a lot to do with)

3. I gotta add Gerrit Wolsink because of his iconic helmet, 1/2 nose guard Jofa set up and he had a bitchin fancy number and won the biggest most popular motocross race in the world five times looking cool. He even threw his bike and himself across the finish line to edge out Mikkola.

4. First American that stands out to me is Brad Lackey. From Husky, to Kawasaki to Honda to Suzuki he always brought his own unique look. Bitchin victory helmet, cool number fonts, flashy style and the first guy I remember in a cowboy hat and pulled it off!

5. MARTY SMITH! Nicest, most well built, tan handsome guy in the sport who got even more stylish when he dawned his red white and blue gear and ABH and THR down the front of his quads, that huge opaque face fender that only he made work. And after the race was approachable and friendly and humble.

6. Kenny Zahrt. Unique helmets, always a cool looking number, trick bikes and so much style!
7. Eventually Bob Hannah. Not at first, but over time and stacking up wins he had the Scott boots, lightning bolts, Superman JT jersey, proto JT over the jersey chest and back protector. When he wore that in the Trans Am in ’78 I was like wth? A week later I wanted one so bad. His skin jump style, his fanning the clutch, his duck bill visor that never looked good on ANYONE else, his names on the back of his pants and of course all topped off with his Hurricane Hannah nickname and winning just about everything and being brash and funny.

8. Brian Myerscough. Smooth as silk! Curved visor, his mane curved on the back of his jersey and a hunched, head forward.

9. Johnny O’Show!

10: Bailey or Lechien. They were basically the same person.
