NBC Sports Network is returning.
After shutting down at the end of 2021 with the networks sports programming moving to USA and the Peacock streaming service, NBC Universal and YouTube TV announced today that the channel is returning.
The 24/7 linear network featuring a wide range of marquee sporting events and programming from NBC Sports will officially launch next Monday, November 17. NBCSN will be available exclusively through participating pay-tv distributors, launching first for all YouTube TV subscribers and soon on Xfinity, with other distributors to be announced at a later date.
While Peacock has been great for Monster Energy AMA Supercross, Pro Motocross and the SMX Playoffs, the loss of NBCSN has reduced time on linear TV with action sports not being a great place to air alongside the 50th rerun of Law & Order on USA Network and finding air time on the main NBC channel proving difficult.
Why the relaunch? According to Yahoo, “NBCSN now returns as USA will no longer be under the NBC Universal umbrella. Comcast spun off its cable channels from NBC Universal into a new company called Versant.”
The 2026 SMX broadcast schedule has yet to be announced and in the press release, NBC did not mention anything related to SMX, but one would figure a few races would find a home in the newly launched (but kind of already been a thing) NBC Sports Network.
