Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cole Davies is expected to race the final round of the SMX World Championship Playoffs this Saturday at Thunder Ridge Nature Arena in Ridgedale, Missouri, per a team press release.
Davies, who entered the Playoffs as a favorite after winning the 250SX East Region and 250 Pro Motocross titles and coming in first in points, has had a disastrous Playoffs. In the first moto in the mud at round 1 in Columbus, Davies was leading when late in the race something became lodged in his rear brake, causing a technical issue that ended his race early and left him with a 22nd-place finish. He would win the second moto, and entered the second round with a chance at the title.
Davies finished fourth in the first moto on Saturday and was working toward the front in the second moto when he crashed hard and was unable to finish the race. After 4-22 motos for 14th overall at round 2, Davies is seventh in the standings and 34 points from the lead entering the finale.
Despite the crash, Davies is expected to race this weekend.
“It was a disappointing day in L.A.,” said Davies in a team release. “I finished fourth in the first moto, and then unfortunately crashed in the second one, which I’m gutted about. It’s definitely not how we wanted it to go, but there’s still one round left. We’ll come back stronger for the last one and give it our all.”
