Mike Brown Seriously Injured in Practice Crash

Road 2 Recovery has released an update regarding the condition of 2001 AMA Pro Motocross Championship 125MX Champion Mike Brown after he sustained serious injuries following a high-speed crash while practicing on June 3.

According to R2R, the 12-time Loretta Lynn Champion was practicing with his factory riders (Brown is currently the team trainer for Factory Triumph Racing) and was transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital, where imaging revealed a concussion, broken neck, mini stroke (TIA), and a swollen artery caused by bone trauma.

Per R2R, Brown underwent cervical spine surgery on June 5, during which a screw was placed on the C1 vertebra, and metal plates were installed on C5 and C7. He is currently recovering but continues to experience symptoms related to his injuries, including neurological and vascular complications.

He is scheduled for transfer to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA, where he will begin intensive rehabilitation. While long-term recovery will depend on neurological and physical therapy progress, doctors remain cautiously optimistic.

“While practicing with my factory riders during a routine practice session, I suffered a high-speed crash on the second-to-last lap,” Brown said per R2R. “As I approached a rut in the track, the front tire of my bike entered and followed the line, but the rear tire failed to follow through, causing the bike to fishtail violently. This sudden loss of control resulted in me being forcefully ejected over the handlebars at high velocity. I was launched forward and landed head-first onto the ground, absorbing the full impact with my head and upper body.”

“Despite the force of the crash, I remained fully conscious and alert. I remember the exact sequence of events—losing control, being thrown from the bike, hitting the ground, and managing to get back on my feet moments later.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my entire Triumph Racing team for their unwavering support from day one,” Brown shared in a statement. “I’m especially grateful to my manager, Jeremy, for standing by my side and ensuring that every medical decision was handled swiftly and with care. I owe a huge thank you to Dr. Ifeanyi N. Nzegwu for the successful surgery and outstanding care. I’m truly grateful for his attention, support, and expertise every step of the way.  To my family and friends—thank you for your constant love, strength, and encouragement during this difficult time. Your support means everything.”
