Partzilla PRMX’s Team Owner Julien Perrier Gives Us a Budget Breakdown On Mud Races

Mud races, man. They’re absolutely brutal on the riders and maybe more so on the team that has to clean everything up. We’ve had two different mud races in a row in San Francisco and San Diego, which means the parts budget has to be absolutely shot for the privateers.

The factory teams have all the parts that they want, whenever they want, so no problems there. I decided to check in with Partzilla PRMX team owner Julien Perrier to get his calculations on the budget breakdown.

Here’s what he had to say.

“Well, two full motors, complete engines, nothing happened to them, but at our level and wanting to be the top privateer team we feel it’s safe to replace them and rebuilt the other ones to keep as spares,” Perrier said. This is the most costly item as the 250 motor is $10,000 each and the 450 is $6,000 with mods. The team only rebuilt the motors after San Fran, as San Diego wasn’t as bad.

Some of the Parts Replaced:
Engines
Plastics
Chain Sliders
Chains
Sprockets
Brake Pads
Brake Fluid
Clutch Fluid
Air Filter
Grips
Clutches X3 Per Race Day
Hand Guards
Tire Tubes

Perrier said that each bike had about $3,000 worth of parts replaced. Luckily for him, Partzilla and other great sponsors keep the program running and are prepared for nights like these.

Just looking at this list makes me want to throw up due to the amount of money and work that gets put into this. Props to all of these teams for making the dream happen.
