Jorge Prado Fined and Penalized After Incident With Cooper Webb in Salt Lake City

AMA Race Direction has assessed one rider license point and a fine to Red Bull KTM’s Jorge Prado following round 17 of Monster Energy AMA Supercross in Salt Lake City after he “violated the code of conduct by using an obscene hand gesture during the competition.”

Here is the official statement: Race Direction reviewed an incident involving Rider #26 (Prado) and Rider #1 (Webb) in section 8 after the finish line. After review, it was determined that Rider #26 (Prado) violated the code of conduct by using an obscene hand gesture during the competition. Rider #26 (Prado) was assessed one rider license point and a fine.

The penalty comes after Prado gave a gesture to Cooper Webb as they crossed the finish line, then acted as if he was going to punch Webb after the two exchanged words. Watch below:

The finale was the latest rise in tension between the two champions. While they have had run-ins throughout the season, it escalated in Denver with the duo going down after Webb’s block pass attempt.

In the post-race press conference after his third place finish in Salt Lake City, Prado said he never takes Webb out and that “if he was faster, he would have passed me before, like all of the other riders.”

“I’m always the guy that’s [being] taking out, I never take him [Cooper Webb] out,” Prado said. “So, he going pretty aggressive with me but like I said the other weekend, if he has a 20 minutes plus a lap to pass me and he decides always to go aggressive. If he was faster, he would have passed me before, like all of the other riders. I just focus on myself and hopefully next year I’m a bit better, so I don’t need to be fighting with him and being up front.”

In an interview with Vital MX, Webb had quite the response to the situation, saying he told Prado he was “just a fast Vince Friese.”
