Round 2 of the 2024 250SX Futures were held at Daytona on some of the roughest track conditions. The best riders from the A & B classes had their chance to race under the lights and some big names made their first Future’s appearances! We had one of our amateur experts Tyler Collingwood AKA @tcimagez break it all down for us. Here are his takeaways from the weekend.
Supercross Futures returned this weekend and provided a very technical track, maybe the toughest track conditions these kids have been on. With rain midway through the morning and into the afternoon, the track broke down very quickly and became super rutted. There had been four races before the Futures had the chance to hit the track, so they were going into some gnarly conditions.
Landon Gibson and Casey Cochran
The future for Rockstar Husky is looking bright, as I had heard rumors this was coming. The team and Landon Gibson made things official and announced the signing just before Daytona. Landon was able to finish the night in 11th. With this being his first Futures, and with the track conditions, I’m sure Landon and his team were happy with the results. Rockstar Husky also has another amateur rider Casey Cochran, who I think we will see line up next weekend at Birmingham. Casey missed the first round of Futures and made his comeback in Daytona. Cochran was able to get into third and that’s where he stayed. Unable to catch up, he seemed upset with his results and knew he had more in him. Cochran could be a threat to mix things up on the East Coast.
Gavin Towers
Star Yamaha and the kicker in the face of that triple are gonna have beef. The same kicker that claimed Haiden Deegan in practice, claimed it’s second Star rider of the night. Gavin Towers took a nasty one off the triple, throwing the bike away and landing on the downside of the third jump. His bike landing on his lower back. Towers was able to get up and get back into the race, but the bike looked pretty banged up. Towers would finish 18th. I’m calling it now, this will fire Towers up and we will see him get a win at the St. Louis Futures round.
Klark Robbins and Luke Fauser
Klark Robbins and Luke Fauser were two new faces to the Futures scene and both had very good starts to their supercross career. Robins was able to finish fifth while climbing from ninth on lap one. Fauser battled through the pack moving from 12th all the way up to seventh. For how short the races are, and considering the conditions, these dudes were on the move and making some passes.
Cole Davies
Cole Davies had another strong race and was battling for the lead. Adams seemed to be kind of running away with it and here came Davies. With only two laps to go, Davies had to make quick work of Adams. While Cole wasn’t able to get the pass on Drew, this has to be another result that he and his team are wanting. Davies only has five races to prove he’s ready to make the move to America and chase the dream of becoming a Supercross champion. So far in the series, his results are a first and a second place and I’d say that move is looking better every week.
