ClubMX Yamaha Released a Fantastic PR About Their Terrible Fox Raceway and You Need to Read It

Team PR people have come a long way. One of the better ones out there is Mike Bonacci. He run PR for the Muc-Off/ClubMX Yamaha squad and does a great job. He mixes in humor with real, actual information. Slaw has actually blogged about this before.

Every team, expect for maybe Honda HRC, is going to have bad races. It happens. And will continue to happen. Then comes the part where they kind of side step what happened.

Nope, not the ClubMX team. They took this one standing up.

Let’s call a spade a spade. They had a terrible opening round at Fox Raceway. Garrett Marchbanks went 17-15 for 16th overall, Jeremy Martin went 16-19 for 17th overall and Preston Kilroy went 23-24 for 23rd overall. Again, not good.

Well, instead of hiding they released a great PR saying they sucked and will work to get better. Read it below.

WTF JUST HAPPENED? Like a fan rooting for their NFL team with great anticipation as the season starts: “This is the year we are going to the Super Bowl”, optimism is spread across the team. Then the first game comes, and you get your teeth kicked in. Time to re-set the goals and get back to work. Such was Pala for our program. With overall finishes of sixteen, seventeen and twenty-three – this was not at all what we were expecting and certainly not what we are happy with. I can provide a list of excuses, but that is exactly what they would be – excuses.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM PALA:

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE: Fact of the matter is we own it. We are responsible for our actions and will take the necessary steps to improve. Some of the crew stayed in California to develop more power. The rest of the crew headed home and got back to work on suspension and holeshot training. We thought we were ready, but as everyone else elevates their game it makes it more difficult to be at the top. We even considered moving one of the riders to the 450 class, but we did not want to be perceived as running away from the challenge. We are going to stay and fight.

My weekly plan was to give an update on points vs the SMX finale, but we must score some first. With the first round behind us the season starts fresh at Hangtown. The fire has been set lit under everyone on the team to do better and I believe we will. Like my uncle always said: “I may not always believe what you say, but I’ll always believe what you do.” So, it remains to be seen what we are capable of and it will make for a good story as we claw our way back to the top.

  1. Great article. Note: so many spelling errors in this blog… “he run” , “expect” instead of “except”. More proofreading.
