Championship Clinching Scenarios For Salt Lake City 2

I hate to rain on any parade, because Slaw loves a damn good parade, but the titles in each of the respective divisions of Monster Energy Supercross (450SX, 250SX East, 250SX West) are all but wrapped around a good bun as we head into the finale at Salt Lake City this Saturday.

Still, we have a race to run and you never know what can happen, especially with this weekend serving as the East/West Showdown. So here is what Cooper Webb, Colt Nichols, and Justin Cooper need to do to clinch this weekend.

450SX | Cooper Webb

Webb enters the weekend up 22 points on Ken Roczen and he owns the tie-breaker (most wins), so Roczen technically needs to pick up 23 points Saturday to claim the title.

If Roczen Wins…

If Kenny were to pick up the W on Saturday, he would need Webb to finish 20th or worse.

250SX East Region | Colt Nichols

Colt Nichols is in firm control of this title after Christian Craig went down with a leg injury last weekend at Salt Lake City 1. Jo Shimoda keep his slim title chances alive with his first career win last Saturday but enters the weekend 23 points back of Nichols. Nichols also owns the tie-breaker, so Shimoda really needs to pick up 24 points.

If Shimoda Wins…

If Shimoda wins Nichols would have to finish 21st or worse to lose out on his first career championship.

250SX West Region | Justin Cooper

Three riders have a shot at the West Region, but this is all but Justin Cooper’s to lose. He enters the weekend 20 points ahead of second place Hunter Lawrence and 22 ahead of third place Cameron McAdoo. Cooper owns the tie-breaker over both.

If Hunter Wins…

Cooper would have to finish 18th or worse to lose the title.

If McAdoo Wins…

Cooper would have to finish 20th or worse.

So, there you have it. Simple math, folks. If Slaw messed up said math, please email the AMA. Thanks!
