Other forms of motorsports—from NASCAR to F1—offer some sort of in-helmet communication. In 2025, MotoGP will introduce a new radio communication in stages, “with new race director for 2025, Simon Crafar, the only person able to communicate with riders. Messages are also expected to be short and concise, Autosport reports, in order not to distract riders and maintain the highest level of safety at all times.”
There has been a lot of debate on if this technology should be introduced into SuperMotocross. I, for one, am in favor of one-way communication between the race director and riders. Will it happen anytime soon? I doubt it.
While we wait on the powers to be to determine if that is the right move or not, the Muc-Off/FXR/ClubMX Yamaha team is enhancing the way viewers can interact on race day and has launched a program where fans can listen live to the audio between the team’s mechanics, etc.
The team launched the concept this past weekend in Glendale and will be offering the service going forward at Race Link.
Keep in mind, you must be 18 or older to participate and fans will be able to purchase a Race Link pass for one event for $9.99, allowing them to listen at the track or at home. Check out more here.
