Eli Tomac to Miss “Upcoming Rounds” of Pro Motocross Due to Neck Injury

Red Bull KTM announced on Wednesday that Eli Tomac will miss the “upcoming rounds” of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship due to a neck injury sustained in a first moto crash at the opener at Fox Raceway last Saturday.

Per the team, “scans this week confirmed a hyperextended ligament and partially torn muscle, requiring the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider to take time out from racing.”

On the opening lap of the championship last Saturday, Tomac and Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Garrett Marchbanks‘ lines met and both were involved in a hard crash that sidelined Tomac for the remainder of the afternoon.

While Marchbanks was able to get up and finish the moto and compete in the second 450 moto, Tomac was put onto a stretcher—with a neck brace on—and he was taken off the track on an Alpinestars medical cart.

Tomac said in the press release: “I’m really bummed to get injured early on at the opening round. Since the end of last year when I first threw my leg over the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, I said I couldn’t wait to ride this thing outdoors because the engine package is unreal and I felt it would be a lot of fun racing motocross on it. It’s just a shame that a racing incident early on in Moto 1 has really put a dampener on my outdoors season right now, but I will follow my doctor’s orders and rest up with every intention of getting back out there sometime this season.”

Tomac, a four-time 450 Pro Motocross Champion, was making his Pro Motocross debut with the team after moving to the Austrian brand last off-season.
