Will Chance Hymas Race Tampa? “Late Decision” to Be Made

The 250SX East Region kicks off this Saturday in Tampa, FL, and the class is stacked. RJ Hampshire, Tom Vialle, Levi Kitchen, Austin Forkner, Max Anstie and more are all slated to race.

One rider that will be a race time decision will be Chance Hymas.

In their post-race press release following Glendale, Honda HRC Progressive announced that Hymas “will likely make a late decision as to whether or not to participate” after undergoing surgery on his knee last September.

The Idaho native made his pro debut at the 2022 Pro Motocross season opener and enjoyed a breakout season in 2024. Following a successful AMA Supercross Championship in which he finished seventh overall in the 250SX East Region, Hymas went on a tear in Pro Motocross, finishing the season with four overall podiums, including his first career win at Red Bud. He would finish fourth overall in the championship and was named the MX2 (250) rider for Team USA at the Motocross of Nations at Matterley Basin, UK. Unfortunately, a knee injury sustained at the opening round of the SuperMotocross Playoffs forced him to withdraw from the team.

The knee injury was to the same ACL Hymas injured during training just before the 2024 season got underway. Hymas aggravated the injury during the opening SuperMotocross round in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 7 and later underwent surgery.

“I was doing everything in my power to be ready for MXoN, but I’ve been battling issues with my knee this entire season,” he said at the time. “The team and myself decided the stakes are too high to take chances at the MXoN, and I need to get my knee fixed for the future. My sole focus now is getting back to top form and being prepared to compete for championships in 2025.”

We should know more as we get closer to the race, but for now, it is uncertain if Hymas will race the opener.
