It’s hard to imagine Haiden Deegan racing another full year in the 250 Class. Following a 1-1 performance at round 4 of the Pro Motocross Championship at High Point, Deegan has now won three of the first four rounds and has only lost two motos (he went 2-2 at Thunder Valley for second overall). Behind his win on Saturday, Deegan holds an already insurmountable 42-point lead over Jo Shimoda in the championship and a second straight 250 Pro Motocross title seems inevitable.
The only thing Deegan had left to accomplish in the 250 Class was a Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship, which he claimed in May. Add in his two SuperMotocross World Championships 250SMX titles (2024, 2023), and a move to the 450 Class appears all but done.
Well, not quite.
Deegan has said all along he will defend his 250SX Championship in 2026. Following High Point, in the post-race press conference he said he will begin testing the 450 this off-season and then determine a plan for Pro Motocross.
“Yeah, probably in the offseason when I have some time to do some testing on a 450 and figure out what the plan is,” he said. “But yeah, as of now, 250 Supercross and outdoors is still up in the air, you know, winning these 250 titles is nice, so, if I feel good on the 450 preseason, then we’ll run it.”
Word around the pits is Yamaha and Star Racing are working on a new deal for Deegan, which will likely determine his plans for 2026—and cost them a lot of money.
If I had to guess, we will see Deegan defend his Supercross championship and move up to the 450 Class for Pro Motocross in what will be one of the most-anticipated moves in recent memory, as he’ll go head-to-head with Jett Lawrence, Eli Tomac and more.
Get the popcorn because that is going to be all-time!
