We Talk with Adam Bailey About the Second Season of the FIM World Supercross Championship

On the doorstep of a brand-new season of the FIM World Supercross Championship, supercross fans anxiously await round 1. Just days before the season gets rolling, we caught up with the CEO of SX Global, Adam Bailey, to get his final thoughts on the off season and what’s to come with WSX in 2023.

Vurbmoto: We’re excited for a new season where supercross packs it’s bags and travels around the world. A ton of work has gone into this season hasn’t there?

Adam Bailey: Yeah, cheers, thanks mate. There has been a ton of work done on this year and we’re extremely proud of what we’re able to bring forward. It was important get the rounds in that we did last year and learn from what worked and didn’t work and I think we’re better for it. This really is the first season and we’re treating it that way. We’re learning all the time and even as we go, we’ll continue to learn and tighten up how we operate. There are so many areas to be improved on and I feel we’ve certainly done so leading into what we consider to be our inaugural season. We’ve spent the last six months talking about it and building anticipation and now I just want to go racing and see our hard work go into practice.

Yes, I’m sure you’ve had a conversation like this one about 100 times since the checkered flag flew on last season. 2022, WSX laid the foundation. 2023, it’s time to build the framework of what this series can become. Chad Reed is going to be a big part of that whether he’s being an analyst in the booth or acting in a consultant or advisory role. Where do you see him making the biggest impact?

Most see Chad Reed as the legendary athlete that he is but what most probably don’t understand is that Chad is an incredibly savvy businessman. His well of knowledge is deep and diverse which makes him a real asset to have on location at these events. The multiple points of view that Chad can look at a particular situation with is maybe the most underrated thing about him and certainly where he’ll make a big impact for us. We have so much to learn from Chad and the racers do as well because Chad is at a point in his life where he’s able to open with this new generation as well as some athletes he used to compete with. They can learn a great deal from him, and I hope they do.

For those in Birmingham who already have their tickets. What can they expect to see and how excited are you to bring supercross back to the region?

We’re over the moon about it. The one thing we often must keep in mind is that in many ways, traveling internationally is a luxury for many people and that means so much of the world hasn’t had the opportunity to see these athletes do their thing in person. That’s such a powerful thing for so many and it’s not just little kids. I get emails all the time from grown men who tell me that getting to see a race like that in person was life changing and I don’t want to get over dramatic about it but it’s extremely moving to have those individuals reach out like that. For the people who’ve already for tickets in their hands for this weekend’s race in Birmingham, you’re in for a treat. We’ve planned an event of spectacular proportions and really look to have everyone feel like that they watched something incredible and entertaining. For those who are still on the fence, I say give this series a chance. Come out and see what we have to offer, and I think you’ll leave having had a damn good time.
