After hounding leader Ken Roczen for the opening 8 laps of the 15 lap first 450 moto at the Unadilla National on Saturday, Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger had one of the most bizarre crashes in recent memory.
Plessinger landed hard after the finish line and immediately looped out. Which, yeah, if that was you or me, no big deal. Us simpletons do that shit on the reg. This rarely happens to pro riders. Obviously the most famous case of this happening recently was Ryan Villopoto in 2015 at the MXGP of Trentino.
Plessinger’s bike was destroyed and he remained down for some time as the Alpinestars Medical team assessed him. He was eventually able to stand under his own power and walk to the medical mule before being carted away, but he was unable to line up for the second moto.
At this time, the team said they will provide further updates when more is known. Hopefully AP is okay, because he’s enjoyed a breakout season thus far.
