The Canadian outdoor national series–the Triple Crown Series–kicked off last weekend in Calgary, Alberta. This summer, the series was joined by some rather fast young riders from the U.S., as Vincent Wey, Ryder Malinoski and Kade Johnson made the trip North to get some gate drops in. Following a path that Drew Adams took a few years ago, coming up and racing the Canadian series as well as races back home.
The Calgary weather is always on the unpredictable side and this year was no different, with the skies opening up just in time for the first 250 moto.
The rain was no match for the defending champion, Preston Kilroy and his MX101 FXR Yamaha. Taking advantage of great starts in both motos and starting the season strong going 1-1, for a dominant win, picking up right where he left off last year.
Malinoski has joined the MX101 FXR team for the summer after riding a partial season last year. While the opener wasn’t ideal, there is lots of speed. Malinoski would go 9-3 for fourth overall, recovering from crashes in both motos, cutting through the field to secure a top five position.

The young Team Green duo also had strong starts to the season, Kade Johnson would go 4-4, to take third overall. Johnson showed speed and most importantly consistency in the tricky changing conditions. Wey would have to settle with seventh overall, going 3-9 on the day. A great first moto in the mud would be offset by a first lap crash in the second moto.
Wey and Malinoski would come together a few corners after the start of the second moto. Unfortunately this would result in Wey riding right to the mechanics area for some mechanical adjustments from his mechanics boots.

The 450 class continues to be dominated by Canadians Dylan Wright and Jess Pettis. The pair left the field behind in the opening moto, riding in a different postal code compared to the rest of the pack. Sadly a DNF for Pettis early in the second moto would deprive the crowd of a moto one rematch.
Jordan Jarvis also had a busy weekend, racing the opening WMX race in the U.S. on Saturday and heading right for Calgary to line up Sunday. Jarvis would take the tie breaker winning the second moto with a 3-1 for first overall. Isla Phillips would take third overall and Jamie Astudillo brought home fourth overall in the WMX class.

The series continues this weekend and the schedule runs into August, for a full schedule and all the information on the Triple Crown Series and how to watch check out their website for the full run down at triplecrownseries.ca.
