The 250SX East Region press conference has come and gone on the cusp of a very busy Detroit Supercross weekend. SOME of us here at Vurbmoto are very thorough and ask the athletes important questions to get the scoop. While others, like Slaw, don’t do anything at all. We had our Canadian correspondent Brad G’Hardt write up a small report on things that stuck out to him post race. Enjoy.
Triumphant Triumph
Right off the top, the media was able to grill Bobby Hewitt from Triumph Factory Racing and he had honest and frank answers. Hewitt laid this out very plainly. “The team is constructed with knowledgeable people who’ve largely work together before. To say that there hasn’t been snags and hiccups along the way would be a lie, but we expect to give our best as a team and steadily improve throughout this year and the years to come.” Hewitt went on to say that the original plan was to have Joey Savatgy race the 250 West series, but obviously AMA rules put a damper on that plan.
Dax Attack
The long awaited supercross debut of Daxton Bennick is officially here and with it comes many questions from myself and other members of the media. I asked if the hype around his training speed was a confidence boost or if he would prefer to fly under the radar? “I mean, it’s cool to hear people have good things to say. I’m looking to get this first round under my belt, give it my best and see where I can improve throughout the series. The team is clicking and I’m excited because all of us are going fast,” Bennick said.
Maxed Out Age
The 250 West has 40-year-old Billy Laninovich and the 250 East has Max Anstie and Jeremy Martin who are both old enough to have ridden carbureted 250 four strokes at the beginning of their careers. When Max Anstie made his pro debut, Daxton Bennick was 4 years old. Don’t count out of the UK’s finest though, Anstie admitted he’s riding supercross as well as he ever has. His race craft and maturity might be the X factor to him being a title threat in 2024.
