Motocross of Nations: Are We Sending a Team or Not?

I’m not sure if Team USA is cursed or not…

Sure, we won the Motocross of Nations on our home turf in 2022 at RedBud, but ever since our ‘dynasty days’ from 2005-2011, it’s been rough. More often than not hurdles are placed in the team’s way that they must overcome before even committing to the event.

Take this year for instance. Star Racing Yamaha’s Haiden Deegan has been getting demolished on social media by some that are claiming that his surgery excuse isn’t good enough. Some people think that Deegan is using the surgery that he needs on his wrist as the excuse that he doesn’t want to go race the event. However, the man says that he needs surgery to get the hardware out of his wrist from the injury he sustained before the 250SX East Region, so I’m not sure why this is hard for some people to understand. We only have a few months before the 2025 season begins…

Either way Team Honda HRC Progressive’s Chance Hymas was set to go in his place until a crash in Charlotte hurt his knee again. He opted out of racing the final two rounds in Texas and Las Vegas and now he will need surgery as well to repair the damage. The next time we’ll see Chance Hymas will be in the 250SX East Region in the 2025 Monster Energy Supercross Championship.

No worries on the MX2 rider though, because the Team USA hero, Cooper Webb has stepped up to fill that spot. All is well that ends well…

…just kidding.

With Chase Sexton hurting his hand on Saturday after a racing incident with Justin Barcia and Aaron Plessinger’s injured shoulder, we may not even send a team this year.

According to PulpMX’s Steve Matthes, a meeting was held regarding the team on Saturday and it’s all going to boil down to whether or not Eli Tomac wants to race the event. If he wants to race, then we are sending a team, but if he’s not, we’ll see you guys in 2026 in France.

We’ll know more about this debacle in the next couple of days. It would be a shame not to send a Team USA to Motocross of Nations, but with so many setbacks and injuries I don’t blame anyone for pulling the plug this time. Sometimes you can’t keep trying to fit the square peg in the circle hole.

I for one and hoping that Tomac says yes.

  1. Omg are we quitters?? Send a team, there are a lot of riders that would love to go and represent the USA. Win or lose, but don’t be quitters. Show a little bit of class!!!
