SMX Next Will Race Two Rounds in St. Louis to Make up For Canceled Charlotte Round

If you haven’t been keeping track of the amateur ranks for the SuperMotocross Playoffs, there has been some changes in 2025. The 65cc and Supermini races are no longer, and the SMX Next World All-Stars (A and B riders) were expected to get two rounds—Charlotte and St. Louis.

Well…. As you are probably aware by now, the SMX Next riders were unable to race at the opener in Charlotte on Saturday when a rainstorm hit the area and the event was called off after the first 450 and 250 races due to lightning in the area. While the second 450 and 250 races will not be made up (first races will count as the overall) the SMX Next class will get another shot this weekend.

The SMX Next World All-Stars will now race this Friday and Saturday in St. Louis—host of round 2 of the SMX Playoffs– to make up for Charlotte. The SuperMotocross League stated the following:

“The SMX Next class, comprised of up-and-coming amateur athletes, completed their qualifying earlier in the day and were ready to compete in their one-moto format. Due to the event being called early, the young racers will now line up according to their Concord qualifying results – on Friday, September 12th in St. Louis at The Dome at America’s Center. The class will then compete on Saturday in St. Louis as planned for the SMX Next World Championship race.”

So, Friday in St. Louis will count as one race, then they will qualify on Saturday morning for Saturday nights race, which will be the second main event of the weekend.

Got all that?

Monster Energy/Yamaha Star Racing’s Caden Dudney qualified first in Charlotte over Kade Johnson and teammates Carson Wood and Kayden Minear. Tiger Wood rounded out the top five.

  1. Will fans be able to go watch SMX Next race on Friday in St. Louis if we already have St. Louis tickets?
