On the heels of Husqvarna Mobility’s announcement early Wednesday that it was closing its in-house factory program after the 2026 SuperMotocross Championship later this year and instead will “support independent teams and riders with factory level materials and technical expertise,” 450 team rider RJ Hampshire all but confirmed on Instagram that he will be seeking a new ride for 2027.
“Business is business… doesn’t make it suck any less,” he wrote. “Still grateful, more motivated, and ready to give everything I’ve got this summer. Next year is unknown but hopeful to land something soon!”
The Florida native joined the program ahead of the 2020 season after beginning his career with GEICO Honda. During his tenure with the 250 program, Hampshire captured the 2024 250SX West Region title and nearly won a second title in 2025 in the East Division, but fell short in a wild 250SX main event at Salt Lake City a year ago.
Following his title defense last year, Hampshire moved to the 450 Class for Pro Motocross and finished 5th overall in his rookie season. He also contested the end of the year SMX Playoffs in the 450 Class and finished 23rd overall.
Hampshire was later named to the 2025 US Motocross of Nations team alongside Eli Tomac and Justin Cooper at Ironman Raceway. On home soil, Team USA would finish second behind Team Australian which was led by Hunter and Jett Lawrence.
In his first season in Monster Energy AMA Supercross in the 450 Class, Hampshire has only competed in four rounds due to a foot injury sustained while testing. He had a season-high ninth at round 2 in Anaheim.
He is expected to be ready for the start of Pro Motocross at Fox Raceway on May 30.
