POWER RANKINGS ARE HERE!

With no race this weekend we figured we better think of something creative and something that we’ve never done before. Why not rate the best moto nicknames of all-time?

We’ve had millions of nicknames through the decades in this sport, so we’re sure to get horrible feedback on our lists. Personally I think WE nailed it. When you come up with amazing nicknames like “Har Dog” that get put on the back of a helmet and used around the industry, I’d say I’m an expert nicknamer.

Let’s hear your list in the comments!

Troy Dog

– Bubbalicious. As a longtime fan of Stew I have to say that this is the coolest nickname of all-time. In 2006 when Stew had the ‘rebrand’ he dropped the Bubba nickname and it hurt true fans like me. Stew will always be Bubba. Unrelated, we call our son Bubba…AKA Bub Dog, not because of Stew, but because it’s a great nickname.

– Hurricane was the first nickname I ever heard in the sport. My dad is a huge fan of Bob Hannah and it’s just a tropical vibe. Mix this nickname to the tune of your favorite Scorpions song and boom, you have a theme song.

– Did you know McGrath showed up to Loretta Lynn’s in the C class with ‘Showtime’ on the back of his pants? Mix this with the 1980s LA Lakers.

– If your nickname was ‘Bad Boy’ and ‘Too Hip’ then you’re doing a great job of marketing yourself. Rick Johnson had many nicknames, so shake his hand Hunter Lawrence.

– We here at Vurbmoto are all about dog nicknames and ‘Dogger’ is the one that started it all!

– My buddy Jeff Emig has a rad nickname that my other buddy Denny Stephenson created. At the Fro 400 this year everyone was wearing an afro in honor of the legend himself.

– Another doggy nickname! Junkyard Dog is such a cool nickname AND now Dowdy has his own dog house next to the track at Southwick!

– Ryan Hughes is Ryno! I might be biased, but animal nicknames rule and rhinos are awesome.

– How can you leave the GOAT out of this? You can’t! This nickname has a double meaning and has obviously been used in other sports, but Matt Walker started something cool in our sport.

– BamBam is an underrated nickname in my opinion. You get a nickname for the chaos that you create on the track and own it? I’m in!

Slaw Dog

-How can the Hurricane not be #1? The epitome of cool — then and now — and I’d argue the first nickname in the sport.

-Growing up in the South, no one and I mean no one, was cooler than Damon Bradshaw. To boot, he had one of the best nicknames in the sport.

-I don’t really need to say anything here, do I?

-Underrated nickname IMO. No idea where Hot Sauce came from, but it just fit Tedesco.

-RIP, Tyler. The late Tyler Evans was punk rock. Back in the ’90s, when moto was cooler, Evans was the man you didn’t want to miss with — on or off the track.

-The Man, enough said.

-Rick Johnson was so cool he had multiple nicknames, but I’m going with Too Hip.

-Credit to The Weege for this one. Funny thing is, people HATED this when he first started it, but hot damn he stuck with it and it became a cool nickname.

-The most fitting nickname on this list.

  1. The best 2 nicknames while on the gate go back to when Guy Cooper lined up next to Jeff Matiasevich.
Coopers nick was obviously Coop and Jeffs was Chicken.
They both leaned forward as the gate was about to drop on the back of their pants you saw… yep, you guessed it…
    Chicken Coop
