Morning Espresso: The First Vurbwes Edition

Wow, the intro to my very first MotoSport.com Morning Espresso, where, ironically, I’m writing it at night with, no joke, a MotoSport.com RD5 espresso shot in hand. SHOP MOTOSPORT.COM WAREHOUSE SALE AND SAVE UP TO 75%! One sec…

Okay, well now it’s gone. You might think I’m sponsor plugging away here, but I for real bought way too many bags of coffee from them during Christmas because they were donating a bunch of the money to a program called The Santa Boots Program that supports veteran and military families. I had to look that bit up, and just found out they (as of Nov ’22) have donated over 30k. That’s insanely badass. Alright, now I’m extra hyped so let’s get into it.

First off, a massive middle finger to Slaw Dog – the normal writer of this column – who decided to take his first vacation in like 8 years; the audacity! He’s currently shredding the pow in Telluride, CO and the rest of us (me) are extremely envious.

Second up: The Vurb Shred Tour at the Shoals last weekend. Wow, what a riot. We seriously had the best time ever, and I might be the most biased person on this front, but I would pick hanging at a local Shred Tour over just about anything else in the dirtbike world. Granted, I’ve done and seen a lot, and been to just about every race under the sun a dozen times, but there’s just something about cracking beers in the middle of nowhere South Carolina, with a bunch of dirtbike loving shredders, and doing fun ass stuff all damn weekend. We ride dirtbikes, give away tons of stuff, build tons of sicko content, and give away thousands of free photos – it’s exactly what would’ve made me smile ear-to-ear when I was 16-years-old ripping the 125 C class. This past weekend we partnered up with Stew Baylor and had the inaugural Vurbmoto Off-Road Bash which was a mix of motocross and woods. I think the woods part scared off 95% of moto dudes, but I can honestly say it’s the first time I’ve wanted to race in 15 years. I WILL line up and race this next year, mark my words. Thanks to everyone that came out and supported us and/or helped us drink one of the 9 million beers Stew bought for the A1 Watch Party.

We GoPro’d Up Dawson Cobb and Made Him Start Behind Supermini Shredder Caleb Wood. It’s worth the watch!

Oakland! Everyone already knows the news of the postponement, but I just have to say I personally think it’s the right call. The safety of the drivers and people is imperative, and with all the problems we’re seeing on the news I am glad we put their safety first. Sure it would’ve be SO MUCH FUN to watch everyone ride dirtbikes on a mud plywood rink, but I’m glad that we aren’t doing that. Plus, it gives me an extra week to (hopefully) refine my PulpMX Fantasy Strategy.

AMA Arenacross, given the news above, decided to up their bounty this weekend for the 4th round in Prescott Valley, Arizona. It’s going down this Friday, and if you’re looking for a good time it’s definitely going to be worth the ticket. Word on the street is quite a few guys might be heading that way to try to take home some extra loot! Check out ArenacrossUSA for more information.

Austin Forkner. Out for the SX Season. I’ve been shooting with Austin since he was just a puppy, and I’m still a huge fan. His passion, style, and drive is a ridiculous package. I was very much looking forward to seeing this guy win more races, but I guess we’ll be waiting another 6 months for that. GWS Austin… You still got this man.

Colby Raha is ridiculous. This video is ridiculous. And I can’t wait for a ridiculous invite to Rahville. It looks like they don’t allow embedding, so just click the damn thing and watch it on YouTube. Colby also has another video project – unrelated to this one – called Gnaria releasing with Jay Schweitzer very soon as well. We plan on being at the next handful of premieres they are doing.

For real, watch this. They licensed Social Distortion and that alone is money.

Anyways, I think I’m at my word limit for this. My *almost* two year old hasn’t gone to sleep yet, my newborn just threw up on her mom… it’s time for me to go and daydream about snowboarding in Telluride.

I’m gonna try to make a habit of this from now on. TTYL.

Been 'round these parts making dirtbike movies since '02; a weathered veteran with moto and camera related back issues, the hearing equivalent to my great-great grandfather's, and a dirt tan that will literally never come off. But I'm still in way better shape than every other dog in this joint, but that's because I use Chili and no slaw.
