Michael Mosiman Took How Much Time Off and Qualified First?

I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a rider, who hasn’t raced in nine months, get signed to a factory team midway through a season. Yet here we are. Don’t get me wrong, this is a very cool story, and without it I wouldn’t have something to write on this Monday morning.

The Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha team has enough riders that they can enter their own team in the March Madness Tournament right now. (Seriously, I’ve planned this out for a column later on this week.) That didn’t stop them from adding Michael Mosiman to the mix.

Mosiman came in as a pretty hot prospect for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team in 2017. He has always had the speed to contend, but his consistency and crashes have played a huge role in his results. Mosiman’s third in the 2022 250SX West Region points was his best showing of his abilities to this point in his career. He accomplished his first and only win in San Diego that year. His progression was gaining momentum and it looked as though 2023 may even be the year for him to break out even more with multiple wins, which may put him in the discussion for championships.

It didn’t play out like that.

In total, Mosiman raced six races in 2023. Four races into the Monster Energy Supercross season he announced on Instagram that he wouldn’t be racing anymore until outdoors. Unfortunately for Mosiman, he would only race two rounds outdoors before a shoulder injury at Hangtown put him out for the season.

From that point on, all has been quiet from the Mosiman camp. He hadn’t even put up any Instagram posts since last April, which means we’ve been without any of his fun facts for almost an entire year.

We’ve tried to reach out to him as well, just to get an update on his life and to see how he’s been doing, but we received no answer. Rumors in the offseason had him linked to a few teams, but once all of the press releases were released, he was nowhere to be found.

So, when the news that Mosiman was signed to Star Racing dropped a few weeks ago, it was good to see his name back in the mix. Mosiman could start fresh on a team that seems to have an endless budget and resources.

At Seattle, his debut with the team couldn’t have gone any better. He qualified first overall through the B group, finished fifth in his heat race, and sixth in the main event. For not racing a Supercross race in over a year it sure looked like he didn’t miss any time at all.

Oh yeah, he was also the top finishing Star Racing rider as well!

It’ll be interesting to see where Mosiman takes this opportunity with Star Racing Yamaha. We don’t know what he’s been through to get to this point, especially with the injuries, but we’re glad he’s back on the bike and making the most of this opportunity.
