Honda Releases Jett Lawrence Update Following St. Louis Supercross Incident With Barcia

Just when you began to think that this season couldn’t get any wilder…

This sport continues to deliver the unexpected and that is exactly what unfolded tonight in St. Louis. Early in the third and final 450SX Main Event, Jett Lawrence cut down a turn quickly and upon exiting the corner, Justin Barcia came in very hot. The two had a vicious collision that sent the 20-year-old rookie points leader to the ground.

Jett was on the ground, visibly in pain, for some time before rejoining the race a lap down. He would finish the race, but the damage was done, he was credited with 21st in Main Event #3, which put him 8th overall on the night.

Honda Racing put out a small update on what they knew of Jett’s injuries after the race on Instagram.

We’ll keep an eye out for further updates from the Lawrence camp regarding these injuries. The HRC Honda rider still holds an eight point lead over Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha’s Cooper Webb.

One thing that is for sure in this situation is that this two week break couldn’t have come at a better time for Jett Lawrence.

  1. As a huge Jett fan and longtime motocross rider I am surprised that Jett got back on his bike and also surprised that bam-bam didn’t even get a reprimand from the AMA. It seemed obvious that he was out of control and it was very amateurish that he crashed into Jett or another rider in that happened to be in that place. Barsha should be reprimanded for his lack of incompetence and behavior.

  2. Jett was clearly at fault!! Lap #1 in a wide entry, multiple line – tight exit turn and all 22 racers piling in at speed trying to get a great start and Jett decides to go wide to cut inside at speed?? NOT SMART 😣😵‍💫

  3. As a huge fan of the sport and rider as well, I feel this was nothing more than a racing accident. If anything because it was the first lap, and knowing there would be congestion in that 180, maybe Jet picked the wrong line. Barcia came in hot, but not out of control. If he was out of control he would also have went down. Anyone who races knows that the first lap provides great opportunities for advancement, but also is very costly when you make a mistake. I feel Jet is definitely the future of pro racing ( heck he’s the current star ) although there are situations that only experience will create instant decisions that will help avoid these issues. Like hitting Webb last weekend.

  4. Feel like karma a b!tch whether it Barshas fault or not. That stuff comes back to haunt ya eventually. I’ve seen the same happen in Nascar.

  5. I also raced although that was over 35 years ago the track layouts are similar because of space, Jett cut that corner to tight with all the traffic you have in the early laps. He will learn from it, but anybody who blames Barcia has never been on a supercross track

  6. It’s a racing deal, nothing more. Earlier in the race is best for passing and Jett is very aggressive as is Barcia. Obviously both Jett and Justin had this corner as an early passing opportunity but Jett made an unexpected dive bombing left and opened himself up to oncoming traffic. “Thats racing.” I just hope Jett didn’t hurt himself too bad, that it’s going to effect his racecraft. That would suck big time,
    Nuff said…

  7. Jett cut that turn down he should of stayed high n outside . Barcia did have a whiked trajectory coming tho. Just a racing accident I don’t think barc8a did it on purpose and I don’t think it wad a rookie mistake by Jett if you really watch him ride he pinches the corners like that to make his trajectory perfectly in line with the upcoming launch or whatever is there it gives him just a hair sec more time to get speed and body positioning for whatever obstacle is there. It’s actually very impressive and effective it just one of those bad timing things we all go thru here on earth it’s the powers that be just re humbling you or trying too. He is growing fast it’s a fast sport however we all know the bull and calf story. Don’t run down there just Cruz it will payoff in the end. It’s better that bad crash now while he’s young and can heal quick get it out the way regroup refocus.slow it down just a hair not the bike the mental. He had to kno that he had a Hurd coming behind him. Just like the red cross flag penalty it’s just a experience knowledge thing. I think he be back I’m Tennessee two weeks and gonna jam can’t wait.# SUPERMOTOCROSSMANIAC!

  8. Barcia didn’t have to do that! He came cutting through that corner knowing that guys in front were going to be taking that line, even when going wide. He was cutting across/through the entire corner. When was he going to turn? Barcia is a washed up rider who just needs to leave already. He took out Lawrence who has promise. Barcia is just there to be a passable rider by 2/3rds of the rest of the pack. And he’s always been a douche!

  9. Friese handled that sharp corner entry well, as for Bam Bam🤯🤦🏽‍♂️ clearly out of control🤷🏽‍♂️ Wish Jett a speedy recovery

  10. He tried to square the turn and got off the gas.

You can’t be mad at the dude that hit him for trying to take the same line everyone else was taking. It looked like he came in souped up because Jett was off the gas.

Some folks play flag football for the same reason. If you can’t take the lick, get outta the sport.

  11. Propper punctuation and not using capital letters on every word makes thing easier to understand. Honda is not gonna let the golden goose go free.

  12. Yeah my eyes too fucking now but she is a bitch proven trying to make that corner like that he couldn’t do it cuz ran into the jet he’s a bitching my eyes tou Barca
    Ar

  13. Honda Releases Jett Lawrence Update Following St. Louis Supercross Incident Bara that’s exactly what it says the headline about a jet they don’t say anything about releasing him dumbasses

  14. Barcia, Barcia, Barcia, again & again, he is involved in sooo many of these over the years that you have to know it’s on purpose, he knows exactly what he’s doing, trying any desperate way to advance himself so he doesn’t lose his Gas Gas ride. He’s been a smart ass with an attitude since day one, nothing has changed.

Looking at the video, you can see he is coming in hard with no intension on turning, he has done this exact same thing before. Cheap move for a desperate guy. AMA won’t find him because Feld Entertainment likes this controversy, gets us all talking and posting which is more advertising space they can sell. Politics as usual!

  15. I can’t believe all the people on here saying Jett is to blame. Ok he cut down to find a new line around everyone. But look at the line 51 took. He wasn’t passing anyone and he was going to fast to make the inside. I don’t think it was to hurt Jett but there was no reason for Barcia to go so inside to out to protect the line. Anytime I’ve done it it’s to park someone. It’s a race and shit happens but it isn’t Jetts fault.

  16. As far as I’m concerned Barcia should be fined or banned from the sport. This is how careers are ended. What an idiot!

  17. All of the wont to be riders that think Jett was not at fault have never and i hope will never race in any race anywhere because they will wont to be babbed also grow little sissy. Keep racing straight people

  18. As far as I’m concerned, this incident ought to permanently ban Barcia from racing. There is no attempt to turn, or even to set up to turn. He’s going the opposite direction he should be. He’s putting himself on the wrong side of the course, if he’s meaning to set up to turn. There are two riders traversing the space already. He doesn’t even appear to be braking. He just heads straight for Jett.

If it were truly an accident, it has to be one of the dumbest and most irresponsible moves I’ve ever seen. His course is not even congruous to any object of racing. I think it’s really sick that Ricky Carmichael was so quick to pass it off as a racing incident as well. Justified by what. (No, that’s not a question.)

How true fan of racing skill has ever been a fan of Barcia’s block passes, I’ll never know. Tomac gives sufficient room to his competitors. He passes clean, because he has great speed (at least his great speed is returning).

So if your concept is speed is a slower guy, who’s not even competing… cutting across corners at irrational angles to block people who have earned their place ahead of him… then why don’t you just plea idiots running across the course, crashing into every other racer until they’re the last guy standing? Why not put 400-pounders on machines with spikes sticking out everywhere,.. and when they’re two laps down on the third lap… why not cheer when they just start cutting across the course everywhere to mow people over?

Reason would instead concede that would be a different sport, wouldn’t it? Barcia’s sport.

When deviate behavior of the kind we criminalize in society takes out the emerging champion and negates the very purposes of these championships, fans of the crime should move on to the lack of principles they champion instead. The skills and excellence which comprise this sport were already set in its birthright. Barcia might as well have carried a gun around the track, and blasted Jett in the last opportunity his poor speed and strategies would give to him.

Hooray for that. But if that’s the sport you want, you’re going to lose every legitimate fan the sport ever had. Extreme dis to Ricky. I rolled thru the incident live half a dozen times. I can’t believe Barcia wasn’t red flagged permanently, on the spot. Just get off the track forever. That isn’t how any respectable competitor _ever_ “competes.”

  19. Ok, so Jett cut down too early and he gets blamed for the wrecking ball that is Bam Bam slaming into #18 at right angles. I cannot believe RC’s comments that Jett is to blame for squaring off the berm like he does all the time, what about track position and respecting that space.
With Bam Bam coming in a full speed he was always heading straight for Jett regardless if he squared off the berm or not. Bam Bam’s rear wheel was in the air so he had reduced stopping power and even if Jeff followed his brother Hunter around the top of the berm, Barcia was still out of control and could not stop from hitting Jett, lucky Jett moved his left leg way back at impact or it would have been broken very badly.
Barcia is just a thug and should be rubbed out for good.
