Haiden Deegan’s impressive come-from-behind victory at the 250SX East/West Showdown in Birmingham on Saturday was ultimately wiped away.
Late Saturday night, the SMX League announced that Deegan had been penalized one position after AMA officials reviewed a moment during the Main Event in which Deegan made an illegal lane shift through a split-lane section of the racetrack that required riders to commit to a single lane. As a result, Deegan was docked one position for cutting the track, which handed the win to his Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha teammate, Cole Davies.
The penalty places a blemish on what was otherwise a spectacular ride from Deegan.
After the race, broadcast reporter Will Christien caught up with Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 250 team manager Wil Hahn:
“Oh, for sure. For us to be at the Yamaha home race with everybody here, either way it’s a great result for us, right? It’s just a real shame for Haiden. He’s worked really hard. He’s on a really big win streak right now and chasing records, so all that stuff is really positive. Obviously for the team, for Yamaha and for all of us it’s great no matter what, but we’re still going to review some footage here. I still want to see it. I haven’t had a chance to review it yet, but it is what it is. It’s racing, right?”

Haiden Deegan has been penalized 1 position for cutting the track in the 250 Main Event.
Despite the penalty, Deegan still holds a commanding 41-point lead in the 250SX West Division championship over Max Anstie.
Meanwhile, the revised results give Davies a six-point lead in the 250SX East Division championship over Seth Hammaker.
The East Division returns to action next weekend in Detroit, while the West Division goes on a one-week break before the second East/West Showdown in St. Louis on April 4.
