Colt Nichols Out For Loretta Lynn National

Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha’s Colt Nichols announced today that he will miss at least the opening round of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross this weekend at Loretta Lynn’s due to a broken hand sustained in Monster Energy Supercross.

After missing most of the 250SX East Region due to a shoulder injury, Nichols returned for the end of Monster Energy Supercross in Salt Lake City and finished on the podium at the first three East Region rounds.

At the final round, Nichols collided with eventual East Region Champion Chase Sexton (the incident, as we’ve mentioned, is under review by the Vital Message Board) in the East heat race. In the incident, he sustained a broken bone in his right hand and underwent surgery on Friday June 26 to repair the damage.

“Had surgery to fix the broken bone in my hand and started doing everything I could to make the first round of outdoors. I pushed the limits after surgery to try and get strength and healing to the bone but it just wasn’t quite enough,” he wrote in part. “After visiting the doctor last week I still didn’t have enough bone growth to feel comfortable riding or lining up to race, it was pretty risky if I did so.”

At this time, it is unknown when Nichols will return to racing.
