Built Different | BoogieDawg’s Reaction to Atlanta 3

Hey there VurbDawgs, just got in from an epic sunset boogie shred session after watching Atlanta 3 and boy do I have some thoughts. I actually tried writing this as soon as the race ended but I think my heart rate was a bit too high for my paws to type. Luckily the waves cleared my mind and having to hold my breath while getting thrashed by the ocean actually calmed me down.

Speaking of thrashed, let’s talk Nate Thrasher. Damn kid, you did it. The ThrashDawg once again found himself outside the top nine after his heat and coincidentally may have been the only guy excited to line up in the LCQ. Our boy GoatDawg mentioned it in the broadcast saying “Hey, it worked for him last time” but we all knew the reality of that actually happening… or at least we thought we did. Nate went on to make the outside gate work not once, but twice, and put himself in a perfect position to capitalize if a mistake was to be made by J Coop, which there was, and Nate did.

Now, Justin Cooper did say he was aware that CamMac was in the back in the pack, so it’s safe to assume he wasn’t going to ride over his head for the win with there only being one race to go in the championship. Regardless, it doesn’t take anything away from Nate’s second career Supercross victory. He also did something that I’m not sure has ever been done before by coming out of the LCQ and grabbing a Main Event win TWICE in a single season. Too bad DC Shoes wasn’t still running their “Refuse To Lose” campaign or the youngster would’ve taken home an extra $20k this week.

Great job, Nate, you shut down the haters and made us Dawgs all excited to watch you in the upcoming years. You sir, are built different. Now moving on to the Premier Class.

Ummmmmm… WHATTT?!?! Dude, wow!

If you had 1000 guesses as to how Saturday would pan out, you’d need 1000 more, and probably still wouldn’t be right. Absolutely unbelievable night of racing for the BigDawg class. Again, wow.

From Roczen’s crash (in which he also set the new record for ‘Fastest Time To Remount The Bike During an Active Race’ hats off to his hustle) to Aaron Plessinger playing potential spoiler, Tomac lurking as always, and finally with Cooper doing what Cooper does, what a race. I mean seriously, WHAT A RACE!!

What I’m about to say next has nothing to do with me being your resident (great, now I’m saying resident) Webb-Wagon-er, but I truly do NOT understand how Cooper Webb repeatedly does this shit.

What’s worse is it’s not like any one of us has any reason to believe he can’t/won’t, I mean look at the guys track record! No matter how many times he does it we’re all still so quick to say “he’s lost it” after two bad races. According to the broadcast the majority of people who play RMFantasySX didn’t put Coop in their top three. Even I was sort-of waiting for AP, Tomac and possibly Barca to sneak around Webb before it was all over. (Side note; I prefer PulpMX Fantasy and you should too..and join the Vurbmoto League.)

But the kid is built different. It’s like he senses when people doubt him and just can’t help but prove them wrong. It’s absolutely incredible and there’s no logical explanation for how he does it. Only thing I can conjure up is it must come from his surfing background, which is close enough to BoogieBoarding that maybe some of our gnar rubbed off on him.

Kenny also rode a great race, even having an impressive 12 second lead at one point, so take nothing away from him either. He’s another guy who is just built different. If it weren’t for a tiny little mistake and some tweaked handlebars he surely would’ve walked away with the win, but that’s racing baby!

This kind of race is why we watch and love our sport so damn much. Seeing a rookie under-dawg take the hardest possible rout to get the W, then getting to watch two of the best guys to ever do it at the premier level lay it ALL out on the line.. simply amazing. There was a time back when JS7, RV2, KW14, CR22 and RD5 all lined up on the same gate and we called it the “greatest season ever”. Although it definitely was for the time, that “time” hadn’t met 2021 yet.

Hats off to all the warriors out there every week for giving us MotoDawgs something to scream at our TV’s about. You guys are ALL built different. Keep it up boys, there’s never been a better time to be a fan of our sport and that’s because of you.

Thanks for reading, and don’t expect this every week. Just couldn’t help myself after that one. Now back to the beach for me. BoogieDawg out.

Also, I’ve yet to get a single comment on any of my write-ups, so if you have something to say don’t be shy. We’re all friendly dawgs here at Vurb. Except for Slaw… don’t mess with that guy.

  1. Thanks Jesse. Honestly even just those two words help my motivation to keep writing. And RipDawg, I know you’ve got my back. Appreciate all you guys.
