Chase Sexton on Detroit Penalty: “I Feel Like I’m in the Right”

Honda HRC’s Chase Sexton won a dramatic 450 main event last night in Detroit after Red Bull KTM’s Aaron Plessinger crashed while leading late in the race.

Following the race, the AMA penalized Sexton seven points after jumping on a red cross flag, but he was still credited with the main event win.

Instead of receiving 26 championship points, Sexton was only awarded 19. Those seven points are big in the 450 title chase, as Sexton now trails Cooper Webb by 17 due to the penalty.

Denny Stephenson posted video of the incident and you can see Sexton made up time on Webb and Justin Barcia by jumping the second double.

After the race, Racer X talked with Sexton about it.

“There’s nothing I can really say, they are pretty much going to do whatever they want. At this point, I feel like I’m in the right. Dean [Wilson] was down … he was on his bike and riding away. I rolled the double, the first one, then I jumped the second one where nobody was down. I was a little bit confused on what to do, but at the end of the day they are going to make their decisions.”
