World Supercross Clears Up Drama Following Round 2 in Australia

On Saturday, following the second round of the FIM World Supercross Championship in Australia, the WSX Championship Twitter account sent out the following, which, yeah confused many of us:

Did a win get taken away? Was there a penalty? We didn’t know.

Well, the promoters cleared things up by issuing the following statement the next day:

“As the sanctioning body of WSX, the FIM last night made a decision in relation to a race process error which occurred prior to Saturday’s 2024 WSX Australian GP (round two) Super Final. Vince Friese (Moto Concepts Racing) was mistakenly included in the Super Final line up instead of Matt Moss (CDR Yamaha Supported by Star Racing). Such error was not due to the fault of any rider, team or WSX. In accordance with FIM protocol, the FIM has since confirmed that the relevant race results still stand as completed despite this error.” – FIM World Supercross Championship

While apparently this was the fault of no one, Friese raced and kept his points for finishing 12th. This is big, as he maintains fifth in the championship, four ahead of Mitchell Oldenburg.

  1. So Vince was “mistakenly” allowed to race and then mistakenly sent Dean Wilson to the hospital. Way to go. When will FIM and the AMA pull his race license? The guy is a menace to other racers!
