Takes: Davies Returns, Dudney Debuts and Brown Sidelined

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA, is proud to announce an extensive update to its industry-leading flagship Motocross model, the new 2026 YZ450F. Faced with the complex challenge of improving on a bike already widely considered the benchmark of the ultra-competitive 450cc four-stroke class, Yamaha engineers put significant focus into refining power delivery and handling performance to achieve a level of precision, control and tuneability that sets a new class standard: the easiest bike to ride fast. Learn more!

A massive news dump from the Monster Energy/Yamaha Star Racing team on Wednesday.

Per the team’s Instagram account, Pierce Brown will miss the remainder of the 2025 season (Pro Motocross and the SMX Playoffs) to focus on a return in 2026.

In his first action last weekend at Ironman since his violent crash in Tampa when he suffered a fracture to his T5 vertebra, Brown crashed again in the first 250 moto and while he avoided injury, per the team, he has elected to move toward a full return next year.

“I’m at a loss for words from Ironman,” said Brown in the team release. “I worked my butt off to get back to the races, and it was a bummer to have it go the way it did. I’m going to take some time for myself so I can get my body 100% for supercross. We’ll take the wins from the weekend, learn from the losses, and move forward. Thanks to the team and everyone in my circle. We’ll be back!”

In positive news for the team, Cole Davies makes his return for the first time since his scary crash at the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season finale in Salt Lake City where he sustained a broken nose and right arm when he was landed on by Jordon Smith in qualifying. Unadilla will mark the Pro Motocross debut for the young New Zealander.

“It’s been a long time since my last gate drop, but we’re back and at Unadilla of all places,” said Davies. “We’ve had five weeks on the bike since my injury, and I’m feeling solid thanks to Swannie (Gareth Swanepoel) and the Star Yamaha crew. Let’s keep it clean and keep building.”

In addition, Caden Dudney, who missed Loretta’s but finished fifth overall (including a first moto win) at the SMX Next – Motocross event last Friday at Ironman, will make his pro debut this Saturday.

“I’m really excited to be racing a pro National this weekend,” he said. “I’m just going to go learn what it’s like to race with those guys, and have some fun.”
