Slawdictions for Houston: Debuts, Debuts, Debuts!

Following a 93 percent accuracy rate in 2022, the most-read, most popular blog in Supercross is back for another season of flaming hot predictions. We are off to round 5 (really round 4) in Houston.

As the greatest wrastler alive, Ric Flair, once said: “I’m the stylin’, profilin’, limousine riding, jet flying, kiss-stealing, wheelin’ and dealin’ son of a gun.”

As always, we will first review my amazing picks from Anaheim 2 before we get into Houston.

Prediction | Jett Wins

Bold, I know!

Tough weekend for Jett. Tough weekend for Slaw. Despite his first “loss” of the season (and mine) Jett still increased his points lead (so did I). Overall not a bad weekend.

Slawdiction: 4 out of 10.

Prediction | Deegan Wins Supercross Futures

The first round of Supercross Futures is this weekend and we will see Haiden Deegan make his debut. The class is stacked with Deegan, Dax, Cochran, Linville and the rest of the boys going at it. After watching Deegan at Mini O’s and in his prep for this, I think he snags the W.

Tough weekend for Deegs. Tough weekend for Slaw. Still, he showed plenty of speed and we get to see him in a “real” Supercross race this weekend.

Slawdiction: 4 out of 10.

Prediction | No One Tweets About Another Rider

I really want riders back on Twitter. IT IS SO GREAT! But one round after the Tweet heard around moto, alas we get none this week. Shame.

Thanks, Star Dog. Leave it to a member of Troy’s Squad to mess this up. Also, Kenny Tweeted for the first time since 2020. Moto Twitter is SO back!

Slawdiction: 2 out of 10.

Prediction | Roczen Podiums

K-Roc aka Kenny Kickstart is getting more and more comfy on the yellow banana. Consistency is key in Triple Crowns and Kenny has a ton of that. First podium for Suzuki since…. yeah, ask Clinton. I don’t know. A long time. Probably.

Speaking of Kenny. You know who believed in him? Slaw, that is who. What a ride for Kenny to grab Suzuki’s first podium since Chad Reed (also at a Triple Crown) since 2019.

Slawdiction: 100000 out of 10.

Prediction | Enzo Podiums

This isn’t as bold as it sounds. Enzo is fing primed for this. He does it and Brazil explodes.

WE are just going to pretend this race didn’t happen. On to Oakland.

Slawdiction: 0 out of 10.

On to Houston, the Crown Jewel of the series.

Deegan Debuts

There is going to be a ton of pressure and eyes on Deegan this weekend. Unfair? Yes. Look, it’s the kids first race. Let’s all chill a bit on this. But, we still have to talk about it. The speed is there. And I like Deegs for a top 7 finish this weekend.

Hymas Debuts

Chance Hymas is coming in super under the radar with Honda HRC. We saw last year in Supercross Futures that Hymas has SX speed and skills. I think him coming in under the radar helps and I have him with a top 7 finish as well.

Justin Cooper Debuts

We finally get to see Justin Cooper on a 450 in Supercross. Cooper will race “select rounds” before dropping back down to the 250 for Pro Motocross and will debut this weekend in Houston. I honestly don’t know where to slot J-Coop, but I’m going between 9th and 12th.

Talon Hawkins Debuts

Hawkins showed a lot last weekend in Supercross Futures at Anaheim 2. The speed was there, but so were some rookie mistakes. That’s expected. I have no idea if the team planned on this, but with Jalek Swoll out, they decided to move Hawkins up for Houston. I think he’s a top 12 guy this weekend.

Blose Debuts with PC

Poor, Mitch. Luckily you can’t kill zombies and the veteran will do well this weekend. Seriously, don’t sleep on his results. Top five finish for Blose.

Vialle Debuts

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO EXPECT from the two-time MX2 World Champion. I’ve heard nothing… good or bad. Top 12, but that’s a complete guess.

Caden Braswell Debuts

Like Vialle, not sure where to slot in the Horizon Award winner in 2022. Just a guess: 10-15.
