RIP Ken Block

We are saddened to report the passing of Ken Block. The actions sports legend passed away on Monday following a snowmobile accident near his home in Utah. He was 55. 

In addition to being a Rally Car legend, Block was the co-founder of DC Shoes and Hoonigan Racing. Block co-founded DC Shoes in 1984, before selling the skateboard brand in 2004. 

Block was a five-time X Games medalist in RallyCross and one of the most well-known Rally drivers in the world. 

Once he moved to the world of Rally, Block quickly became one of the most popular drivers, developing the Hoonigan brand and creating the every popular Gymkhana videos.

“It’s with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today,” a statement from Hoonigan says. “Ken was a visionary, a pioneer, and an icon. And most importantly, a father and a husband.”

The Wasatch Country Sheriff’s Office posted a statement on Facebook regarding the accident:

On January 2, 2023 at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Wasatch County 911 Center received a call reporting a snowmobile accident in the Mill Hollow area. 

Search and Rescue, along with law enforcement from Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, Utah State Parks and the U.S. Forest Service responded.

The driver, Kenneth Block, 55-year-old male out of Park City, Utah, was riding a snowmobile on a steep slope when the snowmobile upended, landing on top of him. 

He was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident. 

Mr. Block was riding with a group but was alone when the accident occurred. 

The State Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.

Block was a prominent figure inside the world of Supercross and Motocross. Tributes from around the industry poured in last night.

RIP, Ken. You will be dearly missed. Our hearts are with his family and friends.
