MY Favorite Riders By Brand All-Time List Explained

Moto Twitter is amazing. F Instagram. And Facebook and whatever Threads is. Slaw is Twitter all day, baby.

I, an AMA Media Member of the Year Nominee, owned Moto Twitter last week.

First, an amazing scoop on Webb’s next venture:

Then, this, if I say so myself, amazing list! Moto Twitter blew up. People were dropping lists left and right.

A lot of people did not respect my list. Steve Matthes, founder of PulpMX Hockey, was among them. He even said the list was so bad he thought Troy made it. Which made me laugh because Troy would make a terrible list.

The best response was this:

Which, of course is the right answer. Because its my fing list. No yours. I wasn’t ranking fastest riders or going by most wins. Its MY favorite riders from each brand. Mine.

Know what I care about your thoughts on MY LIST….

Anyway, I thought it would be prudent to explain MY list. Please respect my list. #respectmylist

Honda: Rick Johnson

Lots and lots and lots of McGrath here. Cool. He should be on YOUR LIST! You know who is on mine? Too Hip himself. He WAS McGrath before McGrath. If you have a nickname Too Hip, you are on my list. Name ONE rider who is giving this speech today? Or hell, even back then. RJ is amazing. #respectmylist

Suzuki: Nico Izzi

EVERYONE wants to talk about Pastrana or Dungey or RC. I get it. I love those dudes too. Guess what? They can put them on THEIR FU**** LIST.

The Golden Era of amateur moto was Izzi, Stroupe, Canard, Wharton, Albertson and on and on and on. Wes, T Stew, Ryan Walters and more were pumping out content like no other. I felt like I knew Izzi without ever knowing him. When he broke both his ankles at Jacksonville (I think?), I was devastated. Amateur moto used to rock and I always loved watching Izzi rip his Zuke. #respectmylist

GasGas: BamBam

I mean, this is obvious, right? Bam is awesome. Pure entertainment since turning pro and even in the amateur ranks. Love him or hate him, you pay attention. That’s what I love! Yeah, some riders are great at winning and they have the personality of a fing wall. I like dudes who bring the fun factor and Bam is fun.

KTM: Herlings

Young Herlings was pure entertainment. The rivalry with Roczen and Musquin and then Searle, Ferrandis, Tonus and many more, Herlings just did not give a f***. I loved it. He raced hard, won and was outspoken. This is motocross after all. Why everyone has to be friends and buddies and training partners is dumb. Herlings gave zero f**** and was fast. #respectmylist

Don’t open with small humans around.

Husky: RJ

Heart of gold. I always loved RJ’s story. Didn’t really race until high school. Dominated on inferior equipment, came back from a very serious brain injury and leaves his heart on the track EVERY SINGLE RACE. What is not to love? #respectmylist

Kawi: Jeff Ward

RV was mentioned a lot here. And that’s great. RV was special. You know who else was? Jeff Ward. That’s who. Not only did win SEVEN AMA titles against some very bad dudes, post-retirement, the dude went out and finished SECOND in the Indy 500!!!!! He then returned to two-wheels at age 43 and won the AMA Supermoto Championship (which, yeah, was a big deal back then). Then he won the title two years later at 45!! Put some respect on Jeff Ward’s name. #respectmylist

Yamaha: Bob Hannah

Do I really need to say anything here? The Hurricane was, and still is, a legend and needs to be on this list. #respectmylist
