After what feels like a month off, the Pro Motocross Championship returns at Ironman this weekend and it is expected that the AMA will name Team USA for the upcoming Motocross of Nations at the same venue in October.
So, who will the AMA pick this weekend? In this edition of Michelin Most Likely, we (I) look into who will be named and a sleeper.
Who is most likely to be named?
I feel this is straight-forward. The team will be Eli Tomac and Chase Sexton in the 450 Class and Haiden Deegan in the 250 Class.
Since his return, Sexton has been the best rider not named Jett Lawrence. He’s coming off a moto win at Washougal and I don’t see any reason—other than his upcoming team switch—that he would not be picked.
Very much the same for Tomac. While he hasn’t been “Beast Mode” all year, Tomac has been damn good this season. And, if not for some guy named Jett, he and Hunter Lawrence would be locked in a title fight right now with three rounds to go. Akin to Chase, the only reason Tomac doesn’t get picked is because he’s switching teams this off-season.
Yeah, Deegan is going for the first time. No way he won’t be picked….right?
Sleeper: If for some reason Tomac and Sexton aren’t picked, the logically mind would think Justin Cooper is next in line.
