Morning Espresso: From The Met Gala to The Pat McAfee Show to Dale Jr, PEOPLE, ESPN, CNN and Thor, SuperMotocross Has Entered the Mainstream

I’ve been meaning to write this blog for a while, but every time I go to write it, another athlete is getting some “mainstream” love. So, I’ve just kept a running list of stuff over the last few weeks and was waiting for the right time…

That time is now!

Earlier this week, Anton was on PulpMX and they discussed growing the sport and the “mainstream” media coverage “we” have been getting lately. The topic has been a discussion across message boards and press boxes since… well, forever. McGrath on Leno, Stew on ESPN and on and on.

I’m not here to tell you any of this will matter in the long run. I’m also not here to tell you it won’t. I will tell you it doesn’t hurt. As with anything in life, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

With that said, here is a running list (if I missed something let me know) about SuperMotocross athletes getting mainstream press this year.

Colt Nichols on Pat McAfee

There is arguably no bigger personality in sport media right now than Pat McAfee. The former NFL punter hosts the mega-popular “The Pat McAfee Show” on ESPN and had Twised Team/HEP Progressive Insurance Suzuki’s Colt Nichols on before Indianapolis Supercross.

The Deegans in PEOPLE Magazine

PEOPLE magazine dropped a feature on the Deegans—Brian, Haiden and Hailie—earlier this year about “how they used their social media savvy to expand their brands beyond the race track.”

Malcolm Stewart Doco on ESPN+

STEWART 27, an inside look into Malcolm Stewart’s world, dropped April 27 on ESPN+ .

Produced by Andscape, Rockstar Energy Drink, PepsiCo Content Studio, and Imagine Documentaries, STEWART 27 brings viewers along for the ride as Malcolm Stewart fights through injury, setbacks, and the weight of expectation to carve his own path in the high-stakes world of motocross, determined to extend the Stewart family’s legendary legacy while forging his own name in the sport.”

Thor (Not that one) in Moto

Hide the women, Thor has entered the pits. That’s right, Chris Hemsworth, the popular actor that is best-known for his role in the Thor franchise, is a moto dad. FYI to fellow moto dads, in 2014 PEOPLE magazine named him Sexiest Man Alive. So, yeah…

Jett at the Met

I’m still not sure what the Met Gala is. I know it is some fashion thing (I think), and it is a big deal. But yeah, that’s about all I know. Earlier this month, Jett Lawrence became the first SuperMotocross athlete to attend the event in New York.

“It’s honestly an honor. It shows that moto’s expanding into new spaces, and I get to help lead that,” said Jett per Feld. “I’m proud to rep the sport and show the world we’ve got style too.”

Aaron Plessinger Joins Dale Jr Podcast

The Cowboy joined Dale Earnhardt Jr’s “The Dale Jr Download” podcast and the episode released this week. Check it out below or on Apple and stuff.

Austin Forkner Feature on CNN.com

CNN recently ran a full feature on Triumph Racing’s Austin Forkner on his return from a brain injury and more.

Triumph in Call of Duty

CMXR on the Twitter brought this one to my attention. I forgot that Triumph is now featured in the popular video game Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Triumph Motorcycles Chief Operating Officer Paul Stroud said: “Call of Duty is a critically-acclaimed gaming franchise, played globally by millions of people every month. For Triumph Motorcycles to become part of this world and take our place in this incredible story is very exciting.  As Official Motorcycle Partner, we have worked closely with the Call of Duty designers to ensure the player experience of riding each bike is as realistic as possible, modelling extreme stunts and riding moves that will thrill motorcycle enthusiasts as well as gaming fans.”
