Morning Espresso: Dungey Return (?), Poor Phil, and More

Welcome to Morning Espresso where we recap some news from around the world.

Ryan Dungey Return?

Ryan Dungey hasn’t raced since winning the 2017 Monster Energy Supercross Championship and walking off into the sunset. Since retirement, Dungey has worked with KTM, was part owner of GEICO Honda for a cup of coffee, started his own coffee company, invested in Intense Cycles, became a father….etc. Needless to say, he’s been busy.

Well, rumors are starting to pick up that Dungey may return to supercross in 2021 on a Honda. PulpMX/Racer X’s Steve Matthes reported it over the weekend, but these rumors have been picking up steam for a while.

Who knows if this happens, but what a shakeup it would be for the 2021 season.

Barcia Staying?

Speaking of rumors. Justin Barcia to GasGas seemed like a done deal a short time ago. Not so much anymore. Rumors are that Yamaha has matched the offer (they have first right of refusal) and Bam Bam could potentially be staying put. If so, that would mean Yamaha could have a three-rider team in 2021: Barcia, Dylan Ferrandis, and Aaron Plessinger. Stay tuned.

Poor Phil

Ugh, Poor Phil. At the final round of the Rockstar Triple Crown Championship at Sand del Lee, Nicoletti was battling with Dylan Wright and got landed on. No broken bones, but his finger got demolished.
