The future of the sport is for the taking with young talent like Jett Lawrence and Haiden Deegan up in the mix of Monster Energy Supercross and Pro Motocross. Today I thought it would be fun to compare the first part of Danger Boy’s career to Jett’s. I wanted to see how Haiden’s progression compared to a Jetterational talent.

Other than Lawrence’s rookie Supercross season, that was put on hold due to Covid, these two riders are pretty spot on one another. One of the most interesting parts about this data is that Deegan’s results are just better. He has more wins and podiums than Jett did in his first two seasons. Deegan came in with way more hype to his name as Jett didn’t really start to truly come into his own until his third year. That’s when the ball started rolling for him and you know the rest from there.

We need to point out that Lawrence was in the running for the win at Anaheim 2 in his rookie season, but crashed out on the final lap with a few turns to go. He picked it back up and finished 6th, it could have been a win, but it would have been a for sure podium. Regardless, he did not win…or podium.

Deegan had one more podium in his rookie Supercross season than Lawrence did and had five top fives compared to Lawrence’s three. Lawrence did only have six races in his first year.

It took Lawrence eight starts to win his first Supercross and it took Deegan ten.

Through the six comparison sophomore races, Lawrence was only able to get one win, while Danger has two.

It took Lawrence 23 moto starts to win his first moto and he won the overall on that day at Fox Raceway. Meanwhile, it took Haiden only seven motos to get his first win. Deegan was able to get three moto wins in his rookie motocross season, while Lawrence won one.

Another thing I found fascinating was the fact that they both finished fourth in their rookie Pro Motocross Championships. As it sits right now, Deegan is in third on the 250SX East Championship, which is where Lawrence finished his sophomore SX season.

These two SMX World Champions have a lot in common after all when it comes to results. It’ll be interesting to watch Deegan continue to progress in the next couple of years. Lawrence really took his racing to the next level in year number three. Deegan is a little bit more ahead of the curve right now in his sophomore season.

Will Deegan be the one to battle Lawrence in the 450 class when he moves up? That is a little bit too far out of my speculation zone at the moment. With that being said, it’s T-Dog’s Takes, let’s go there!

I think he most definitely will be that guy when he moves to the 450 class full-time. All of the current 450 riders will be retired or in their last year when he moves up and we’re about to see a new blend of talent takeover. With the similarities on track, and with this data, I’d say it’s fair to assume that Deegan and Lawrence will be battling for years to come.
