Another season of Monster Energy Supercross has come and gone and last night three new champions were crowned.
The new 450SX champ Jett Lawrence won the title in his rookie season, becoming the third rider to ever do so. He’s the first rider since Ryan Dungey to win his rookie Pro Motocross Championship and SX title.
All Jett needed to do was finish 17th or better if Cooper Webb won. However, Webb ended up in third, so Jett’s seventh on the night was more than enought to get the job accomplished.
In the 250SX East/West Showdown, two championships were up for grabs. Haiden Deegan took off with the start and did everything in his power to try and beat Tom Vialle. If Deegan won, he needed Vialle to finish 11th or worse. However, despite a questionable heat race finish in ninth, Vialle found his groove. He went on to finish eighth in the main, which was plenty to win his first title in the United States.
Vialle won this regional title in just his second try.
The 250SX West Region Championship was a bit more exciting as it was a winners take all moment for RJ Hampshire and Levi Kitchen. It all boiled down to the start. Hampshire had the start, while Kitchen did not. It took Kitchen a few laps to get around Nate Thrasher and that seemed to throw his rythhm off for the rest of the race. He wouldn’t be able to make any other passes. Hampshire ended up on the rear tire of Deegan for a chance at the win on the last lap.
Hampshire finished second and won his first ever professional championship in the process.
Congratulations to all three riders…now it’s onto the Pro Motocross Championship!
